How Long till it clicks

hey all, we started Potty training our eldest son 2 years and 10 months old. We’ve been training for 6 days now and been in pants from day 1. Only accidents he’s having is from miss firing when sitting maybe once a day. He enjoys it and loves wearing his pants. He goes back into his pull-ups just before bed and back into pants when he wakes.

but I’m just conscious he’s having to be promoted every time. Will it just suddenly click or is there some coaching to be done?

I think in total he’s told us maybe 2 times he needs to go.

he’s doing number 1’s and 2’s in the potty without any issues.

hey sounds like you are getting on great.

when you are prompting him to go to the toilet is it because you can tell he needs to go (my son does a bit of a dance for a wee or at the start would go to a certain part of the house and be quiet for a poo, which he usually did when he had nappies on) or because it’s been a certain amount of time?

I found that leaving it without prompting meant my son had a few accidents in the first few weeks, but when he did we spoke about getting to the toilet and the feeling his body gave him to tell him he needed to go, so he could start to recognise that. We are 4 months in now and he goes to toilet on his own when he needs to go generally, he still does have an accident or two but that’s normally at nursery where he has been distracted.

We were prompting him as it had been a certain amount of time. We’ve found that actually yesterday somthing has clicked and he started saying when he needed to go at nursery and continued this when he got home and this morning. See how nursery goes today but it’s looking hopeful!

We were doing the same with our little boy at around the same age. Literally, within a week of turning 3 he got it. No more prompting, no accidents and tells us in good time. It surprised me so much as we'd been trying bjm for at least 6 months on and off, and reverting back cos he just wasn't ready, then bang, he got it. I've got a 1 year old too and it's made me consider just waiting with him a little longer and not worrying about it so much!
