Advice please (low Papp-a, no thyroid) growth scan and preterm labour

Hello,

Just looking for some advice please!

Despite being told my baby is at risk of an early birth and low birth weight as I have low PAPP-A and I also have no thyroid he measured big at the 20 week scan. Since then I’ve tested for the gestational diabetes which all came back fine and they told us we would probably just have a bigger baby. (Confusing with both of my high risk factors). I have had a growth scan yesterday in which now they have said his measurements are normal measuring him at 3lb 3oz ( I’m currently 29 weeks 3 days pregnant) . I’ve developed a urine infection and I’m getting a lot of cramping at the bottom of my bump and I have a really bad back which has worsened this morning. I’m not sure if this is linked to the urine infection. I was told at the growth scan that baby is head right down, im just getting a little worried that im going to have an early birth due to the information given around my high risk factors and symptoms im having and now having a urine infection which I’ve been given antibiotics for. Am I overthinking these symptoms ( it’s our first so im a little anxious)

Grateful of any advice x

The uti could certainly be causing a bit of irritation. I remember my friend just over a year ago having a funny pain at the top of her bump and she was told it was an irritable uterus.

At this point in your pregnancy though, especially if you have risk factors like yours, definitely contact your midwife or maybe even delivery suite for advice. They will know best xx

Hi, We have low Papp-A and it’s meant lots of growth scans but in all honestly our baby, like yours is growing beautifully on track. We are also having an IVF baby and the hospital like to keep telling us of the risk factors but we have managed to negotiate that we go to term and if possible get to 41+6 before discussing induction. In our experience the risk factors we were told we have, have not impacted our pregnancy.

However, your situation is only yours so you need to do what you feel comfortable doing. They must have you in for regular gap and grow scans so I’d see how you go and feel each time. Hopefully the cramps are only your UTI and it’ll be fixed with the antibiotics. Until then keep an eye on yourself and call triage if you notice anything getting worse.

Wishing you lots of luck!

I don’t have any practical advice but I hope you are okay. I would ring triage, better to be on the safe side x
