I took the max metformin dose all throughout my second pregnancy with GD, I was diagnosed at 8 weeks and my GD was a lot worse than in my first pregnancy. It definitely helped so that I was able to tolerate more carbohydrates.I also took it towards the end of my first pregnancy as my GD got worse.
If you're able to eat well and control it with just diet and exercise then you may not need to take it, but as your pregnancy goes on you might find it gets harder as your insulin resistance goes up.
Is there a particular reason you don't want to take it? It's a very safe drug in pregnancy, maybe speak to your consultant or diabetes nurse if you've got any concerns about taking it.
Hi, I'm having a boy and I've read that taking metformin can increase risk if testicular cancer and cause low sperm count later on life.
I'm already taking 500mg once with breakfast and again with evening meal. However my numbers have all been under 7. The odd evening meal might spike. There was so much going on at my 28 week appointment I didn't get to ask why the increase. Because there's just one odd spike here and there.
I'm thinking to test it out for a week and relax alittle on my carb intake and see if the tablet covers me. I have been very strict with my diet maybe taking more medication might mean I can eat more carb with less pairing with a protein or fat.
