Growth Scan

Morning ladies! I had my growth scan yesterday at 28+6. The F/L measured in 91st centile and A/C measured in 85th centile whilst the head measured in on 5th centile. At my 20 week scan the head circumference was measuring in 50th centile but has dropped to 5th. I’m so bloody worried now and don’t have my follow up scan for 2 weeks - has any other woman experienced this and gone on to have a healthy baby? Thanks ladies x

If the sonographer wasn't worried at the time then I wouldn't worry, percentiles are a sliding scale of normal, so 5th percentile is still in the normal range.

Growth scans and measurements are renowned for being unreliable. Babies move around, there's lots of water in there sloshing about and it's hard to get perfect measurements.

I don't think my babies head percentile ever reached the 50th percentile.

My baby was meant to be around 7lbs 4oz at around 38weeks when I had my growth scan and 2 weeks later at my induction she was 6lb 1oz so and a friend of mine who was told her baby was on the small side had a 10lb baby, so unless your sonographer or midwife are concerned then I would try not to worry or read too much into it.

Thank you Seb9 . The sonographer wasn’t worried, she was quite happy that everything else was measuring fine but booked me in for a follow up scan just to be sure. I also spoke with my midwife to get more of an explanation and she was very helpful and assured me it’s normal. Xx

Agree with the above. The measurements are estimates and there is a degree of error from sonographer to sonographer. No one is trying to cause you unnecessary worry. They have you childs best interests at heart. I had an early induction due to slowed growth and my baby was even smaller than estimated but was perfect and strong.

Hi,

Please don’t worry... they told me my baby had short limbs and he was going to be 9/10lbs and his tummy was measuring 96 circumference I had him 3 weeks ago his perfect all in proportion and was 7.6lbs they made me have a c section for nothing !!!! And made me so ill and worry towards the end of my pregnancy.....

these things aren’t 100 percent accurate ..... your baby will be perfect 💖💙I swear they just like scaring us xx

Ladies... Thank you for all your messages and reassurances. I got a call from the hospital to go up this morning just to be sure and you were all right - sonographer measurements were out. He is a healthy happy baby currently moving away in my tummy 💙💙
