Room temperature

I’m worried about a room temperature, can’t get below 25 degrees even if it’s not warm outside anymore. My baby is not even a week old.

Anyone had advice on this? Do people maintain 22 degrees room temperature for their little ones?

When it was hot like this on our house, we just made sure that baby didn't have too many layers on, she just slept in her sleep suit with no blankets or sleeping bags on. If you can the lullaby trust recommends trying a fan in the room pointing away from baby, you could also try opening a window as long as it doesn't blow directly onto them.

Hiya I recommend purchasing the the Gro egg. I am yet to give birth but I bought it for my baby as I heard such great reviews. It lights up like a night light and the light changes colour according to the temperature. So even if it's dark it displays temperature and you can see what colour the egg is and rest assured the room temperature is where it should be. I think it's a brilliant idea! You dont have to buy it from this site just Google it...im in New Zealand so i just looked for a UK site for you Xx

Thank you, but my Angel Care baby monitor shows the room temperature. I heard about this Egg though, some good reviews.

25 degrees? Guess you're not in the UK. I try to keep the room at 18 degrees at night which is what is recommended. Why can't you get the temp down? Are you in a hot country? If it is 25 degrees at night I'd be keeping baby in a nappy and possibly a short body suit. This is what we did when we were travelling to visit my mum in Malta in summer.

Have a feel.of babys body on his chest and youll get if they're too hot

Hiya, I had the same issue!

Baby just slept in minimal layers with a fan near but not on him, and was fine, I even checked with my health visitor and she said it was fine 😊

He slept in nappy and swaddle

I panicked about this over summer too due to the advice about temperature and SIDS, but as others have said you just adjust the clothing for the room temperature. Some nights my baby just slept in a nappy/ vest and then I might put a muslin (tucked under the mattress like a blanket would be) over his legs early hours or not depending on how hot it was. Also used a fan but not pointing right at baby. And keeping blinds/ curtains closed all day in the bedroom and the room below too as we found the heat did rise. I’m really missing the warmth now and finding it’s bit of a pain having to try to judge how may layers/ which thickness a baby sleeping bag to use! xx

Agree with the advice about dressing baby appropriately for the temperature. I am in the UK but even so my little boy was born in a heatwave (May 2018 - it was boiling!) and our room was regularly 25 degrees at night. Some nights he just slept in his nappy & swaddle or in a vest.

We did resort to having a fan in the room because even opening the windows made no difference. For the record my baby monitor always shows a degree or so higher than my gro-egg so might be worth double checking the temperature. The angelcare one might be more accurate though so not saying it’s not right.

Thank you, my room is still 25 degrees even though it’s not warm outside anymore. I even keep a window open, it’s just doesn’t cool down, sometimes can get to 23. Hopefully, when it gets colder outside it will be easier.
