Stomach bug while pregnant?

Hi all

I’m 18 weeks pregnant. Yesterday I ate two McDonald’s burgers and shortly afterwards vomitted everything out. This morning I still feel a bit unwell, my stomach feels weak and can’t really stand the thought of food so I’ve just been drinking water. Do I need to worry & call my gp?

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. I was informed by my midwife we are more prone to stomach bugs whilst pregnant.

I would suggest drinking plenty of fluids & resting. Even if you don't feel like eating, try to eat little & often so you keep your strength up, perhaps dry toast or crackers. If you're still feeling poorly in a couple of days call your gp as may be more than a stomach bug.

Hope you feel better soon x

I was hospitalised with a stomach bug when I was pregnant, but I was vomiting multiple times an hour and couldn't even keep down fluids, so ended up severely dehydrated. It's good that you are drinking water and as the person suggested above, trying to eat some crackers or dry toast would be good. Definitely call your midwife or GP if you feel worried and want the peace of mind though.

Oh no, the dreaded sickness bug is the worst. When I ate a Greggs baguette even know I am sick for 2 days straight, bed bound as my stomach couldn’t not handle whatever was in it. Just take some time to rest, plenty of fluids & stay clear of Mcds going forward hun. Could just be your baby & body, telling you it’s a no go. I adore Greggs but won’t bother currently just to how rough I am afterwards. Hope you feel better soon x

I gor the norovirus whilst 24 weeks pregnant and it was the worst thing ever. I was vomitting every hour for about 16 hours and was vomitting blood by the end of it. I checked with some nurse friends who said i had probably torn something whilst throwing up and that was the reason for blood but in retrospect I should have got checked out as I was so dehydrated.

I'd say as long as your drinking and keeping it in then you will be okay. Maybe get some dyralites to help hydrate you. Hope you feel better soon x

Hi Zahm

I had it about a week ago, where I suddenly just sicked up everything I had eaten that day, I was really worried that it had effected my baby. For the rest of the day and following day I nibbled on plain food as I had no appetite and was worried it would happen again, thankfully it didn't. The strange thing was I felt my baby more then I had ever felt. If you are constantly vomiting everything up I would contact epu. Since mine was one time I just took it easy and rested. I'm now 21 weeks pregnant, I just had my 20 week scan 2 days ago thank goodness my baby wasn't effected by it.

Good luck hope
