Comparing bump to others

Im always worrying myself that my bump isn’t as big as others who are as far into their pregnancy as me, or less even. I’m 22 weeks, and whilst I had my 20 weeks scan & all was well, I’m constantly comparing. I feel the baby every evening, so know he’s in there having a party I’m just stressing that maybe I’m not as big as others. Did anyone else experience this?

Bumps come in all shapes and sizes! Please don’t worry. As long as your scans are all ok then nothing to stress

about. I got ‘bump shamed’ quite a bit during my pregnancy for supposedly having a small bump/not looking pregnant - I’m very slim and my pregnancy was all tummy, I think people expect weight to go on everywhere else too, but even then I was small compared to others. To me it felt huge but looking back on pics I do see it looked small. It wasn’t until my last month that my bump got much bigger. All scans showed my baby was 95th centile for length and spot on for weight. In the end he was just under 8lbs and even the consultant at my c section op when she pulled him out said ‘where on Earth were you hiding him’ - in my ribs I think!! They were killing me. So bump size really doesn’t mean much at all. Our bodies all deal with it differently. xx

Bumps come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. I was size 10 5ft3 before pregnant. I put on 3 stone and felt huge, but I loved my bump. Loads of proper said I was huge and I just shrugged it all. I was having growth scans all throughout, due to baby measuring large.

It was only then I started to worry, what if my baby is going too come out massive, mouthful of teeth lol

My LG was born via c section (planned) due to measuring large (was told 10-12lb) she was 8.8 which I don’t class as large at all.

Hi Errxo

Congratulations on your pregnancy 😊

I feel the same, I'm currently 33 weeks & not big at all (my 1st pregnancy i was huge at this stage) baby is measuring fine but I get alot of people telling me my bump is small & it made me very conscious.

You may find that towards the end of your pregnancy you sudden notice the size of your bump being bigger. I've read that the 3rd trimester is when you put on the most weight (apparently) but if baby is measuring well i wouldnt worry.

Also I think it depends on genetics, I'm a "big" girl but my partner is very petite so I'm taking is as my little missy is taking after her dad.

Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy x

congratulations to you to lovely.

Yeah, I’m a size 16 normally so I’m kind of stretched to fit baby in currently until he gets bigger & I go into the third trimester. I think comparing just isn’t healthy, but I can’t bloody help. Haha!

Thanks for your advice hun - hope all goes well for you. Not long now xx

Hi, please dont worry, I was pregnant with twins and my bump was smaller than a lot of ladies who were pregnant with 1 baby! My bump really starting growing more round about 26 weeks or so. Your little one is growing well so try and relax and enjoy your pregnancy 😊.

I agree! My bump didn’t start gaining much roundness until 33 weeks onward! I went on to have a 10lb 7.5oz baby girl and once I had her was 5kg lighter and my stomach was flatter than before I got pregnant and looked thinner than I ever have! (Never been thin ever lol). While some woman after birth look like they are pregnant for a while after wards! So really we are so different and our body’s carry pregnancy differently! But your body’s preforming a miracle and when you have that baby home you won’t care whether your bump was small! Feel sad for the woman that’s bump is huge like me at 35 weeks rolling in bed was like turning a tank 😂! Xxx

im nearly 26 weeks pregnant and i dont have a ‘proper bump’, i worry about it all the time. i had 2 old ladies at the bingo hall i take my nan to say i was a fat disgrace with my belly out, which didn’t help my anxiety out.

ive just got the stage of i know im pregnant, i know theres a baby in there, she’s my priority not everyone else. plus i have so many stretch marks aha! xx

I had bump anxiety too as it was so small for such a long time. Well, I say that – my partner thought I looked "properly" pregnant but I couldn't see it myself! And it doesn't help when people comment. People's first reaction, when I told them how far along I was, was always "But you're so small!" as if they didn't believe me, or I was doing something wrong and the child couldn't possibly be healthy and it was all my fault...

But a lot of these people didn't have kids, knew nothing about pregnancy, or they/their partner had been kinda big during pregnancy and they expected me to be the same. It was only really when I talked to the midwife (around 28 weeks I think) and she measured le Bump that I felt reassured. And then at the growth scan I had at 32 weeks (last week), everything was fine – baby weighed about average. People carry their babies differently, women's bodies are all different, and you may find (like I have!) that in the third trimester, your bump suddenly gets heftier.

Easy to say, but enjoy your bump – it's likely just the right size for your baby and for you! x
