6 week postpartum check

Hi,

My 6 week postpartum check is coming up (I’ll be 8 weeks when I have it due to Covid scheduling changes).

I had a c section so presume they’ll check my scar but do they carry out an internal exam or anything else? Just wondering what to expect. Thanks x

I never had a post partum check as they stopped doing mums (I presume they have started again. This was 2.5 years ago) but i highly doubt they would do an internal. If natural birth they may check any stitches but you said you had a c section so they could check your scar but they will basically ask how your doing to check on your mental health, ask about contraception and maybe do blood pressure x

Thanks lovely - that makes sense. Yes I’d heard lots of places aren’t doing them anymore so was quite surprised when my GP said they would be. Mine and baby’s checks are being mixed in with his first jabs though so will probably be quick! X

My GP just said to me they don’t do them anymore but if I have any concerns re mood etc then to book in. Shame they don’t do them everywhere really so you are luck. Hope it goes well and baby’s jabs are fine xx

For mine I just got asked a bunch of standard questions about how the birth was and did I have any issues afterwards (I mentioned stomach pains and got examined but nothing could be found, later found out I had gall stones after a gall bladder attack when she was 5 months 😬 I blame the baby for it 😉 much better now after having it out) but other than that, that was it. It was a pain as they did mine and babies separate on different days as apparently they weren’t allowed to book me too much time in one go at the gps 🙄 Stupid as you still need the same total time regardless of how they split it 🤷‍♀️ So basically nothing to worry about 😊

Brilliant, thank you! Ooh that’s spooky, I e convinced myself since giving birth that I have gall stones (need to stop googling all the time) 😳 😂 x

My experience of this was 4yrs ago so things may have changed - my GP surgery contacted me for 6 week check. At my appointment they weren’t really interested in me at all the appointment was all about the baby. If you have any questions for yourself I’d certainly ask, it should be about both of you x

I just had mine over the phone asking similar questions like above. Had a c-section also but if I’m being honest Iv been completely left since due to covid. Never once been checked and this with phoning with pain in stomach about 3 times since csection 😞

Yeah it’s such a strange time to be going through this - my hospital was great since the birth but I did feel a bit left behind during parts of the pregnancy.

Also, congratulations! I recognise your name from the fertility boards xx

No internal exams. Mainly it's to see how you're doing, make sure your bleeding has settled and a good time to.discuss contraception.

Hope that helps.

Just ask you questions about how you’re feeling etc, bleeding and check your scar is looking all good and heeling well x

My baby is 12 weeks, and I had c section. Tbh, there was more fuss over the making of the appointment, however when I went for it, its mainly for the babies 8 week check. They will ask a couple of questions but no physical.

I didn’t have an internal check at either of mine but as I had stitches they checked how they looked. The rest of the appt was the dr asking questions xx

My experience was 19 months ago but I was just asked questions about bleeding pain and my mental health. Not examinations at all but everything was fine so there was no need for anything.

I had a c section too and they wasn't going to check my scar, but I asked to have it checked.

I went for my 6w check the dr had no clue why I was there he asked me if I could feel the baby kick 🤔 I was like hmmm no she’s at home then said I need to lose weight hmm again I’ve just had a baby! I should have complained and asked to see someone else but couldn’t be arsed.

I had c section myself and at my 6 week appointment, doctor asked how I was feeling and asked if I wanted to go back on pill. That was it, was pointless x
