Swimming Lessons?

My son is nearly 13 months old and I am yet to take him swimming. He loves being in the bath and loves his paddling pool. I initially haven't been able to afford swimming lessons on top of nursery fees and now since leisure centres have all been shut during covid we haven't been able to go anyway.

What have other people done, did you pay for lessons or just go in your own time? Do you feel that lessons are necessary?

Any thoughts would be appreciated x

I've done swimming lessons since 5 weeks old with my little one. I think it's been great that she's got lots of confidence in the water and it's given me confidence in the water with her,so in that way I think lessons were really good for us.

We’ve never done swimming lessons. We just went to a local hotel and used there pool when she was young as was warmer and then we were going to go to our local leisure centre but covid happened but she has also been in pools on holiday. She always quite happy with that and I don’t feel she’s missed out on not having lessons x

Hey i learnt when I was 6 months old, my dad took me for a swim for those arm floats and he taught me... if you are good at swimming and you can teach him the basics... i think this would be great bonding :)

We used too take my LG to the swimming pool before lockdown, she wasn’t that bothered about the pool and would just cling to us or in her ring.

But now she’s older (17months) and she loves her paddling pool, we will take her to a swimming pool eventually. I’m still very weary of taking her too a swimming pool with Covid still around.

We never had lessons till we were like 4, so it’s not something I’m going to rush

I started taking my little boy to a swimming class when he was 17 weeks old. He really loved his bath so I thought swimming was something he’d enjoy but I knew there was no way I’d take him to the local pool because unfortunately I was so self-conscious 😔

We did 5 terms but then we had to move to a new pool and none of the new times were convenient so we stopped. I think that was about this time last year and sadly we haven’t been swimming since. I had been planning to start going to our local pool but then it closed due to Covid.

I did really enjoy the classes we attended previously and he loved meeting the other babies. But I think if I’d been comfortable going to the pool and taking him there from the start, he’d probably have had a similar experience. x

I did swimming lessons with my lo for a term when he was about 6 months or so. I did it because I wanted to be confident with him. It was really expensive for what we ddi (basically walking around singing nursery rhymes!) so we decided we would wait and pay when he is older and can actually learn to swim.
