Why do they say 12 weeks is a safe zone?
i guess thats when most peoples first scans are and i think the science answer is that the miscarriage rate drops a chunk after 12 weeks..

Because around 85% of miscarriages happen in the first 12 weeks so if you get to 12 weeks you have a much higher probability of a successful pregnancy xxx
I guess it's based on when you see/hear the heartbeat which tends to be at the 12 week scan. The rate of miscarriage after a confirmed heartbeat is much lower.
I think the most development happens in the first 12 weeks too. It goes from a tiny seed to something that resembles a very small human! The miscarriage rate reduces too like people have said. But the scan plays a big part in reassuring their okay. I had a miscarriage the day before my 12 week scan!
Thanks for everyone's replies π
