Help! Switching milk feeds from baby bottle to sippy cup....

Looking for some help please. My son is 1 and I know by now I need to stop using normal baby bottles for his milk. I'm having real trouble though as every single other thing I've tried he's just thrown a massive tantrum at, spat the milk out, aggressively pushed the bottles away, thrown them around and cried and cried until he gets his normal bottle. I have tried his usual munchkin 360, tommee tippee sippy cup, a bottle with a straw and a NUK toddler bottle with a hard spout! He drinks water from all of these bottles with no issues at all but as soon as I swap it for milk for his morning and bedtime feed he just goes into a tantrum!

Does anyone have any suggestions or have experienced this themselves?

Thank you,

Nia

Hey to be honest I know the advice is to take them off bottles at one (I forget why this is? Tooth development?) but just like everything else you need to just go with what works for your family and not give yourself a hard time unnecessarily. My little one was on bottles til about 20 months and just gradually stopped wanting them. You may find switching from formula to cows or other milk would have the same affect on your baby. We kept going with bottles as removing them disrupted her bedtime routine far too much. We stopped letting her have the bottle during the day and reserved it only for bedtime about 15 months. By 20 she basically wasn't touching it and the full bottle was still there in the morning.

Don't worry too much, letting them have the bottle a bit longer isn't going to do any permanent damage until you can work out a different way of getting milk to them! Try an open cup maybe? Definitely messier but my lo loves the novelty of getting to drink out of the "big girl cup"! You're doing a great job though well done x

Thank you so much for your response. As a new mum, I usually take what the hv says and I came away from his 13 month immunisations feeling like I was doing so wrong by still using a bottle. I was told it's due to their speech.... hmm! His bottle before bed is his comfort so I will most definitely be sticking to it atm. xx

I wouldn't worry to much my lb is nearly 18 months and he still has a bottle...my hv told me I had to wean him off bottles when he was 12 months but like you my lb hated using anything else so I just left him with bottles.... the only time he dont have a bottle is if go out then he has a fruit shoot x

I wouldn’t worry. My LG is 2.5 and still has her evening bottle in a bottle. I’m on a FB group of babies born in the same month & year as my LG and a lot still use a bottle.

I’ll probably stop soon as she doesn’t go to bed with it now (she’s dry at night and we restrict her fluid intake near bed time) which is what we used it for as she just won’t self soothe x
