I'm 17 weeks today and I am finding the time between scans really difficult. I don't know if this is just because of Covid or if this is a normal feeling for FTMs. I had my appointment with the midwife last week but due to restrictions it was over the phone and only lasted a maximum of 10 minutes so I wasn't able to have her check the heartbeat or anything like that and because little bean hasn't started moving yet I just want to know everything is okay, just for my own peace of mind. The next 3/4 weeks before my next scan seems a really long time! Is anyone else feeling like this? Is this something that Mum's feel even when there isn't a global pandemic?

My partner and I have been talking about getting a private scan, it would put my mind at ease and then he would be able to attend an appointment because at the moment I have had to go on my own
This is exactly why we’re also doing the scan, this is mine and my partners first pregnancy and I don’t want to see our baby alone, so we’re doing it so we can both see our baby together for the first time x
100% agree. I’m 14 weeks and a FTM, we booked a private scan 9 days before my 12w NHS scan, so the first time we saw baby we were together. I have another booked at 16w too even though we are not finding out the gender, I want my hubby to experience seeing our baby and not missing out! It is such an anxiety provoking experience anyway, let alone us mummas going through it alone due to covid, I do understand we have to keep our nhs safe (being an nhs worker myself!), however I do find it odd most hospitals are now allowing visitors but partners still cannot come to scan!! So bizarre!! Xx
All these feeling are totally normal! Like cmbxm, I booked a private scan for 17 weeks as I was really struggling with missing out on the face to face 16 week app with the heartbeat check and hadn’t felt any movement yet so just needed a bit of reassurance. Would definitely recommend it just to put your mind at ease.
I found out at the private scan I had an anterior placenta (at the front) so really glad I did it as she explained I would start to feel movement a lot later than average. Took until 21 weeks to feel them xx
Totally normal! I felt so nervous first time around last year and the time seemed to go so slowly! I booked a private scan and it was really worthwhile at putting my mind at ease. This time around(I’m 17 weeks) I booked a private scan again but more so my husband could come and we could find out the gender together and this was even more important to do than first time around so he could be included in something, so would definitely recommend xx
I'm 20 weeks got my 2nd scan Tuesday next week at 20+6 and the time between has felt soooo long..and this is my 2nd pregnancy.
If you haven't felt anything to give you concern then try your best not to worry the time will soon come and you'll be able to see and hear, your little one soon.
Nothing to do with COVID I'm afraid. You get two scans at 12 and 20 weeks on the NHS, and extra scans only if the need arises.
As for heart beat, my midwives have never listened in at 16w as been told it can be very tricky to find that early on so they don't normally don't check for it. They did check after 20w tho.
Your maternity book should have an outline of the appointments that are normally carried out.
