BLW and constipation

Tugsgirl profile image
48 Replies

Hi 👋🏻 LO is 7 months in just over a week. She has no teeth. We’ve been doing BLW for about 3-4 weeks now and it’s going well. Obviously introducing solids has firmed things up. However for a couple of days now LO seems to be struggling when she goes and when she does it’s a little amount. She’s also teething (which feels never ending). Anything I can give her to ease her belly?

I can’t wait for my LO to sit on his own. He sits supported in his special chair. Almost 5 mo, so not long now I’m sure. Xx

Literally one morning she could barely do it 3 seconds without toppling then the same evening she did it no problems! xx

I did BLW with my daughter too and found the first few weeks and months really affected her ‘movements’. I steamed some prunes 🤢 mashed them and stirred them into yoghurt which helped things along. I wasn’t keen on giving her the prunes themselves before she had teeth as they are really chewy. On another note, your daughter is absolutely beautiful! X

Ooh good idea. She loves those Little Yeo strawberry and raspberry organic yoghurts so I could add some to that xx

Omg she's so cute Tugsgirl Amina was the same I tried kiwi juice and prunes. They worked a treat. Hope your keeping well. X

Tugsgirl profile image
Tugsgirl in reply tovonny27

Definitely trying the prunes. I’ll get some tomorrow. We’re ok here. I’m still a tad sleep deprived..

I hope you and Amina are well too xx

Were great hun thanks just in talks on weather we should have another round. I don't want her been an only child. It's hard tho due to my age and I'm still have sleep deprivation 2.5 years later 😂 yeah try the prunes you can get them little pouches which they can suck or you can spoon feed. Hope it works xx

I would love to give you some advice, but as Millie is NOT enjoying her food and barely swallows more than a spoonful - with a lot of drama, we haven't got there yet!! What a great photo, she's so pretty xxx

Tugsgirl profile image
Tugsgirl in reply toMissSaoPaulo

Thank you!

Oh dear, that sounds frustrating 😩 fingers crossed you get there soon... 🤞🏻 xx

MissSaoPaulo profile image
MissSaoPaulo in reply toTugsgirl

Yeah, but on the other hand she's a very good sleeper and pretty easy going generally so can't complain - you can't have everything!! Hope the constipation eases soon - is it making her grumpy?

Tugsgirl profile image
Tugsgirl in reply toMissSaoPaulo

She gets a bit grumpy yea, she’s not like it all day though. Like your LO she’s generally pretty easy going too. Except she doesn’t really nap during the day xx

Keep a food diary to see if particular foods affect her more. Offer more water, the bowels need lots of water to keep things moving. My son didn't have a solid stool until he was 3.5 years old, he has been diagnosed with gluten intolerance and now has very little gluten, if he doesn't drink enough water then he gets very constipated.

I think pear is also supposed to be good for roughage and fibre so could be one to try. Good luck x

Aw she is gorgeous. Definitely prunes, I had the same issue with my lb so mixed prunes into natural yogurt. Or you can buy prune purée which works a treat too.xx

Tugsgirl profile image
Tugsgirl in reply toNoobs

Thank you ☺️

I’ll look out for the purée too xx

My LO suffers from constipation and nothing worked eg prunes, apple juice etc so first doctor gave lactulose but now she has movicol sachets which really help. When she’s going through a phase we can end up changing her 10+ times a day for the smallest amount of poo 😩 x

Tugsgirl profile image
Tugsgirl in reply to

That’s what’s happening atm xx

in reply toTugsgirl

Aw bless her. It’s awful watching them x

Apples, pears, peaches and prunes are all great to help with constipation. An easy way to give them is stewed and added to some yogurt

Does she eat much banana? I found my LG got a bit bunged up when she had too much banana, so I stopped giving it for a few days. Pears are good - I'd put pear puree in her porridge or you can give sticks of well cooked pear.

Very cute picture btw xx

Tugsgirl profile image
Tugsgirl in reply toWinter_Girl

Thank you ☺️

She doesn’t really like banana much thankfully - in this case! I’ve not tried pear but we will do xx

Want to say she is absolutely adorable 😍

May be worth mentioning to your health visitor also who can advise on what to do next could need little medication from gp x

We tried all the usual recommendations (prunes, pears, drinking more water, lactulose etc) but the only thing that actually worked was movicol sachets. I’ve weaned him off it gradually and things have been fine for the last few months.

I think it was just down to development of his digestive system & eating a more varied diet now he’s a bit older. Maybe see the GP if none of the dietary recommendations work.
