Struggling to feed on one boob.

The milk just seems to flow out of my left boob and my son finds it really easy to fed from this one. However my. Right boob must be harder to feed from and so it is also much larger as he is obviously not getting as much out of it as he should.

What can I do about this?

I had one leaky boob that seemed to work great, the other was the same, never seemed to supply as much. Although I have odd boobs anyway, my right was always bigger and that’s the one I struggled more than with.

I just kept putting him on. Trying to get him to empty it properly.

Maybe pump a bit from it to get it flowing and not so hard, he could latch on a bit better then x

I think it's quite common for babies to prefer a side. it might be worth trying different feeding positions on the side your struggling with to see if that makes a difference x

Could you maybe pump from the other and store that milk for when you are away from your baby or so someone else can help with night feeds?

My boy would only feed from one side for a long long time. Eventually he started taking both sides. I realised it was because the let down was too much for him and gave him wind. As he got older, he could cope with the let down.

Good luck with it all.

Hi.

My LG prefers my left breast too & couldn’t latch onto my right breast so as others have said I used my breast pump to take milk from that side then I gave it to my hubby to feed her. As she has got older she can take both sides but still prefers the left side but will eat from the right breast if she’s still hungry & eaten all of the left breast!

A lot of babies tend to favour one breast more as long as he’s eating well try not to worry xoxo

Same here, LB only prefers my left breast, I’ve heard this is the case with most babies as they feel closer to your heartbeat there... same as the others I’ve been pumping on the right since he was born and letting my husband give the bottle in the mornings on his days off so I can have a bit of a lay in. I also take the bottles out with me and plan if I’m going out that week as you can pump and store in fridge for a max of 5 days, if I haven’t used it up by then and I have around 180ml then I freeze it and am storing it for weaning days when I can add it to his food, frozen milk has to be used within 6 months.

It was tricky to start with and I was upset it wasn’t easy sailing for me with both sides but my LB is healthy and putting on weight all from one side so I’m happy enough to carry on pumping especially as I didn’t want badly lopsided boobs, at least it’s not that bad now.

Keep calm, happy, positive, you’re doing an amazing job already by just wanting to breastfeed your baby, keep it up, don’t give up & All the best hope it works out!!!
