8 weeks pregnant and nausea!

Hello. I am just over 8 weeks pregnant with my first child and I am suffering badly from nausea, vomiting and exhaustion. I struggle to make it through a whole day at work and it is starting to get me down. We had fertility treatment to fall pregnant so I am over the moon that I am pregnant however at the moment, each day seems to drag and I spend a lot of time in the bathroom! It would be great to hear from others who are experiencing the same so that we can encourage each other! X

This sounds all to similar to me. I had IVF treatment and luckily fell pregnant on my first attempt. I'm now 14+ weeks and growing ;) I have to say the nausea really took me by surprise, I had no idea just how bad it would be. Although I wasn't vomiting, I was really struggling with the sick feeling, and dizziness. I barely made it through work each day, but I forced myself - even though it was rough. I constantly felt ill and only left the house to go to work. I have to say once I hit 12/13 weeks it did ease off, I have other things now like reflux etc but its nowhere near as bad, hang in there mommy it does get better! 💖 xxx

I was lucky and was never sick, but I had nausea up till 13/14 weeks and went away, came back in 3rd trimester but not as bad. I tried everything to help, the only only thing that helped me was cold apple juice, coke and mints.

I had the odd few spells at work where I would come over all dizzy and felt sick, I just needed to get some fresh air and lots of water.

I loved being pregnant, but the nausea and reflux later on in pregnancy were the worst part for me. Any more questions you want answered, please ask. This group has been amazing for me x

Thank you. I am definitely looking forward to the stage where I can enjoy being pregnant and spend time getting ready for baby. I don't have too much longer until the end of my first trimester so i will take each day as it comes. Thank you for sharing your experience and tips x

Hey, Congratulations! I had the same from IVF success but from 2 days after my positive test. I am now 14 weeks and still not really much sign of it going yet. I have been so ill that I lost over a stone in weight. I would recommend you go to your GP and get some anti nausea pills. They helped me a bit, and in combination with lots of gaviscon double action i’ve made it this far. There is no pattern to mine at all, I can throw up anytime of the day or night. I’ve been off all my favourite foods and can’t even have tap water as it tastes so disgusting. I have been very very miserable with it all, so I feel your pain. Hopefully your GP can offer some solutions.

I'm sorry to hear what a hard time you have been having. I hope it all starts to improve for you soon. I have been to the GP but the pills they gave me are also a sedative so that isn't helping too much! I have stocked up on Gaviscon double action though and try to keep taking that reguarly. Fingers crossed that we both feel some relief soon x

Hi, I’m 8 weeks tomorrow also following fertility treatment. I’m really struggling with nausea and vomiting. I’m vomiting 2-3 times per day and coming close countless more times. I’m taking heart from it that it is a sign my pregnancy is progressing but I’m finding the constant need to eat and try not to vomit exhausting! I’ve been signed off work because I feel too unwell to work. I hope you start to feel better soon xx

Congratulations on your pregnancy! It is very exhausting, I find the simplest of tasks extremely draining. I am able to work from home occasionally so that does help however going into the office is becoming more and more difficult. I may make an appointment to go back to the doctors and see what else they can suggest - I will try anything! Thank you for replying and I hope you start to feel better soon as well xx

Congrats! I am also pregnant after IVF but a bit further on, 19 weeks. I was so sick from 8 weeks onwards and felt like everyday was awful, and hated food. I feel like I have only really just come out of the other end if I am honest and still have sicky days (but don't seem to vomit any more). I still don't really like food either!

Hoping you start to feel better soon. I have no remedies (and could seriously have kicked the next woman in the fanny who recommended ginger or crackers to me!!). I did get some anti-sickness tablets from the doctor when things got bad and they helped a little. Good luck xxx

Thank you for replying. Yes I have had a lot of people recommend ginger but it doesn't seem to make much difference at all! I know that eventually it will get easier how at the moment time seems to go so slowly. It is nice to know though that you are starting to feel better and there is light at the end of the tunnel xx

Your response actually made me laugh out loud. Bloody crackers and ginger!! I've tried everything. Home remedies work for a day or 2 and then I'm back throwing up 🤢

It's made the first trimester pretty tough but hoping mine is starting to ease now 🤞🏻 x x

Bloody ginger and crackers also made me sick!!! The anti-sickness tablets were really good at the times I was desperate and took them. And they are anti-histamine so as an added bonus I got a decent nights sleep too ;-)

Glad you are coming out of the other side too. I'm blessed with acid now. Thats nice!!! xxx

I was being sick about 8 times a day and took Cyclizine once or twice but made me soooo sleepy (I don't need any encouragement 🤣🙈 )

Only throwing up once or twice now so really hoping it's starting to tail off.... Acid reflux does not sound fun either 🙈

Oh Lord, 8 times a day. Think my max was about 4. That sounds horrible. Glad you are starting to feel a bit better! xx

congratulations on your pregnancy. I had really bad sickness right up till 12 weeks I ended up going to my gp to help me.. I didnt have ivf but im sure if you went to your gp and explained how sick you are they might give you something for it x

Unfortunately it's the norm with many pregnant women. I had it with my first and with my second (currently pregnant with the second). The second lasted longer than with the first. With my first the sickness and symptoms left at like 14 weeks but with this one I'd say the sickness left at like 15 + weeks but I had really bad bloating and really bad dysgeusia that didn't leave till week 18. I was on anti sick medication with both and had to change to a stronger one with this second one. Getting through the day was such a struggle. Everything made me sick. The motion on the train, the smell of food at the station, the look of any food with colours like pasta sauce... made me heave!!! Even now, there are foods I look at and it makes me queasy.

I'm now 19 weeks and most of the 1st trimester symptoms have gone (still have a few lingering things now and then); however now, I'm dealing with back pain.

Many people feel some relief from the sickness by week 12 (it could be earlier or later) so hopefully that is the case with you. Find what works for you as every remedy is different. I know people talk about ginger alot but I couldn't stomach that. Try to eat something when you wake up as an empty stomach really does make it worse (maybe some toast). I also found I was craving ice cubes.... weird...

Any way best of luck with everything.

Thank you for your reply and advice. I am on anti-sickness medication but they don't seem to help at all, I think I will go back to the GP for more advice.

I totally understand what you mean regarding getting through the day, the smallest of things seems to trigger the nausea. I am glad you are feeling better and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy x

Definitely go back to the doctor if the medication isn't working. They should give you something stronger. I had to go for something stronger because the Cyclizine, which is what they usually prescribe wasn't working. Good luck xxx

I actually had nausea throughout my entire pregnancy. At the beginning it was hard. I think towards the end you get used to it. KINDA. But hopefully it goes away soon for you!

LOL just read the bit about the ginger. I found that as soon as I mentioned the sickness to anyone, old, young, male, female, kids or no kids they all had a story to tell about someone they knew that had the same and ginger sorted them out. I seriously have to walk away from anyone suggesting ginger now. It’s so disgusting and makes me vomit 😂 Obviously if it worked all the GPs would be recommending it!

Anyway I hope you are feeling a bit better and that the Dr has recommended something else to help x
