I haven't had a period for 3 months and I am wondering what has happened to my regular cycle! I have had casual sex and the sex has always been protected. I did take a morning after pill as I normally do if I feel unsafe but not always. I am not on any protection. I have taken two pregnancy tests and they are both negative! is anyone else going through this or has been?
I am going to make an appointment to see the nurse! should I be worried? I have had a mental illness that has been stressing me out and making me upset and I have lost weight! could that be the reason?
Thanks

Stress and weight loss can both affect your cycle, I know major weight loss can also stop your cycle.
Maybe book an appointment with your gp to discuss your stress and weight loss and they can give you some advice.
If your having casual sex maybe speak to the doctor about getting a coil or implant. When I wasn't in a serious relationship that's what I did so that I didn't have to remember to take a pill or anything, still used condoms for STI's but had the coil as back up for not getting pregnant.
Hi there
My period went AWOL 2-3 times a couple of years ago after years of it following a consistent pattern. It’s so unsettling when it happens.
I worked out that it was actually a preconception vitamin that negatively affected me as within days of not taking it my period started again. It took me a while to make the link, but i’ve not had the same problem since (and I’m now pregnant). So it’s worth checking out if you’ve introduced anything new to your body, any prescribed medications etc that might impact on your cycle/hormone levels.
Other than that, it’s very possible that high, prolonged times of stress/anxiety and losing weight can all mess around with your body in the way you’ve described - high cortisol and adrenaline levels caused by stress can impact on your hormones as they effectively tell your body it’s not a safe time to conceive. Sudden/extreme weight loss will exacerbate that biological message.
It’s definitely worth a conversation with your doctor to talk about what’s happening and how you’ve been feeling and see if they’ll run some basic tests too as it could be a combination of things.
Sounds like it’d be worth you looking into finding some stress relief strategies too. If nothing else, take this as a sign from your body that it needs and deserves some tlc
That's a good question to ask! I came off St John Wart about 2 months ago and I was on that for 2-3 months! could it still affect my body? I am not on any medications now.
The doctor was pretty dismissive when I mentioned that the prenatal vitamin i’d taken had affected my cycle (so don’t be surprised if yours has a similar reaction), but it was too big a coincidence in my opinion and a google search revealed a lot of other women on various forums having had a similar/the same experience. Obviously these things effect everyone differently.
I know that St John’s Wort can be quite potent, not sure if it would still be having an effect 2 months later but who knows 🤷🏻♀️ I had look online re St Johns Wort and this link: webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingre... talks about the potential link with impacting conception so it might not be too random an idea
I spoke to the Dr on the phone and he thinks it could be either stress or loss of weight. He was clueless of the St Johns Wort medicine I had previously been taking.
Funnily enough, I had an appointment to have a facial peel on the day and told my practitioner that I had been on the St Johns Wort herbal remedy for approx 3 months long. I came off it and it's been 2 months now, she refused to treat on my skin due to the side effects from the herbal remedy. She said that it would damage my skin and make it very sore and photo sensitive!
So now I have to wait until November to have a Obaji radiance peel, till my body is clear from it. She was only a practitioner and she seemed to have more knowledge than the Dr's that just want to prescribe you drugs to keep you at bay. She said that it would affect my periods as the St Johns Wort is still in my system until it leaves which is in 6 months from now my periods will slowly come back. So I don't think I have anything to worry about. I have started going back to the gym to see if that would help. However she said if it doesn't come back and you are concerned you can get something from your Dr to help it come back if it doesn't.
I feel a bit better now that I now know what is causing it. <3
GPs are great for many things, but most of them (unless they happen to have a special interest in alternative medicine or are open minded ) can get very stuck in a purely medical model of thinking.
Sounds like you can use the next few months to really look after yourself while your body adjusts. Hopefully then things will fall into place for you over the next 6 months re your fertility/health x
