Possible excess fluid

Hi

Had my usual midwife check up this morning and she said my bump is measuring really big, when she felt my stomach she also said there feels like there is lots of fluid as well so am going for a scan first thing tomorrow morning. Anyone else had this? What happens if there is excess fluid, is it dangerous for baby? She did also say it could just be a big baby, anyone had a big baby and therefore needed a c- section? Just wanted to hear others experiences

Also I’m 31 weeks

Thanks!

Hi! I had this at my 28 week check up. I knew I was large and my bump was measuring off the scale. My bump was also really tight and it was hard to feel baby. I had a scan which confirmed I have severe polyhydramnios (excess fluid). I am now nearly 35 weeks and have had 3 amnioreductions (where they drain amniotic fluid with a needle). There can be many causes and I have had all sorts of scans and tests but everything comes back negative and my little chap is happy and healthy in there. I am having an elective c section at 36 weeks as they don’t think I’ll get past that. Most cases are mild and moderate and only need monitoring so try not to worry. There are risks of premature labour or your waters breaking early but they will talk through everything with you if you do have excess fluid I’m sure. Good luck with your scan!

Hi, I had this at 27weeks pregnant and was diagnosed with polyhydramnios. My belly was measuring very large and was really tight too like a basketball. It restricted my breathing. I had 3 amnio reductions where they remove excess fluid really slowly. I had about 7litres removed! But I think I was the 2nd person in our local hospital to ever have it done. So I don't think it's common, usually if it's not too uncomfortable they'll just let you go through the pregnancy. The excess fluid can sometimes mean baby thinks you're further along than you are and come early, but even with my huge amounts of fluid I was induced at 39weeks due to complications with our little girl. Hope all goes well at your appointment and feel free to msg me. Andrea x
