I also had hyperemesis with my 1st. Got to 7 weeks for the first 5 days , I was just sick in the morning being able to still eat ect. For the past the days the sickness has bin going through our the day I have not bin able to keep anything down today not even water. My head is pounding i have lost 4 pounds. I think it is time to ring the midwife tomorrow it is also school holidays my poor little boy has bin amazing. And the last thing i want to do is call in sick at work. No sympathy for us ladies who suffer with severe sickness 🤢. I don't want medication maybe it has something to do with the olden days I went on a drip last time and helped so well

I would definitely seek advice. My local early pregnancy unit treats women with hyperemesis so they admitted me overnight for fluids at 8 weeks. Maybe ring them to see if they can help.

If not phone your gp as they can assess your ketones and blood pressure etc to see if you need to go to hospital.

I've been admitted twice this pregnancy. Hyperemesis is horrible, I feel for you!

Call your GP. The midwife can’t prescribe anything. Don’t go to work in that state you won’t be any use to anyone :)

Before going on a drip (or afternoon it it’s that bad) you should be treated with anti emetics because it’s better to prevent it than treat it if you can because getting dehydrated isn’t good in pregnancy. There are plenty of things you can take which are safe. Loosing weight and not keeping water down isn’t.

I had HG and the longer you leave it the worst it gets. Please seek help and don’t worry about work x

Hi Baby2woo,

I suffered with Hyperemesis Gravadium (HG) severely up till I was 17 weeks pregnant. I attended hospital with deyhdration 18 times due to the severity of the vomiting.

For most (HG) does improve as the pregnancy develops.

Due to the fact you are showing signs of dehydration (ie the headaches you described) I certainly would attend your local emergancy care department who should be able to refer you to a ward where you can be given Intravenous Fluids through the veins and also IV medications to ease the sickness.

Becoming dehydrated is very dangerous in pregnancy therefore it is important that you take various precautions immediately especially with the symptoms you're describing of weight loss ect. By seeking expert advice they will be able to monitor you and treat you holistically.

Prehaps once you have been monitored, rehydrated and given medications you will be able to discuss an ongoing care plan to help you deal with the hyperemesis. There is medications that can be prescribed such a ranitidine, cyclizine, condensation to help you managed you're symptoms. However more importantly right now you need to consider attending the hospital for urgent treatment in regards to preventing dehydration.

Best wishes

I suffered with HG up until around 20 weeks and lost over a stone in the first half of the pregnancy. Do not suffer in silence and do not force yourself to work if you are too unwell. I had to take anti sickness drugs and although I felt guilty if I didn't take them I would be so sick that I would end up in hospital on a drip with severe dehydration. I would highly recommend ondansetron. I initially was prescribed cyclyzine which did not work for me. It really is awful when you have HG and no one understands it unless you have had it xx

I’m still currently suffering from hg at 37 weeks, it’s horrible and I couldn’t do it without medication, in my experience the GP is useless they’ll only give you cyclizine at first which was no use to me, it made me feel worse, but when I was hospitalised for fluids they gave me ondansentron in my drip, it was great, and now I am prescribed it in tablet form I can manage to control the worst of the sickness, it’s likely that you were given it too in your IV which will be why you felt better, that and the hydration, I swear I’ve never enjoyed toast as much as I do when I’m on a drip x
