Sickness is making me isolated. Dry heaving and feeling sick

Hi :)

Currently 17 weeks pregnant. My first moment of sickness was in April at around 10 weeks. I was doing a job where I had to stand for 30 minutes, the room went hazy and I dry heaved in the corner. I put this to tiredness and exhaustion at the time and not sickness. I didn’t have another episode like this for another week where I was stood in a queue waiting for some food and the room went hazy again and I dry heaved a few times outside.

I’ve only been physically sick once which is when I took liquid iron on an empty stomach.

I thought I was doing ok but this weekend I was away I dry heaved after a bus journey and whilst in kings cross station.

The only things I can relate it to is when I’m anxious, not eating / over eating, tiredness and just pure panic.

I’m just fed up of feeling sick and dry heaving all over the place, it’s embarrassing and it makes you feel down, to the point I’m scared to go out incase it happens when I’m out and in public.

I’ve tried all the eat ginger biscuits, water, herbal teas.. but it just seems to trigger.

I’ve contacted my midwife today to try and get some anti sickness as it’s just making me isolated and not wanting to leave the house. I thought by 17 weeks I’d feel better so I’m just frustrated and disappointed

I’d definitely see if you can try and get some anti nausea pills. I felt so bad from 4+1 (and I know I was 4+1 as it was an IVF pregnancy) and was bed bound for a week with crippling nausea until I got meds. I did feel a bit better from around 16 weeks onwards but I still needed medication for my whole pregnancy (although I did manage to lower the dose). I went from not functioning to functioning nausea which was survivable 😊. You will get through this but it does sound like you need a bit of help x

Rang my doctor but was just closing!

So told me to ring back in the morning

As I’m not actually vomiting though so It makes it not an emergency it’s just the feeling sick abc dry heaving isn’t pleasant!

Definitely get some medication! Try and get to the doctor tomorrow, I was really sick throughout the first trimester and hoped to come off the meds at 16 weeks but it wasn’t to be. Im still taking cyclizine, the lowest dose now but it helps me keep food and liquids down and keeps the nausea at bay. Hope you get some help soon it it so unpleasant and makes it very hard to get on with your life. Xx

Does it really help

I’m not working til Monday so be good to start taking it before

I’ve just found myself staying at home as i feel better at home in my own comforts and don’t feel sick really. Soon as I go out the anxiety builds and I feel horrendous

I was on cyclizine too 😀 Was great just to take the edge off to function. I came off at 16 weeks but was back on at 20 when I felt soooo ill again. Took a dose day after having baby and then was fine from then on 😊 x

It’ll certainly take the edge off so you can function. I think GP’s are getting better at realising morning sickness should not have to be suffered through and women should get the help they need. I’m not sure I’d of made it through my pregnancy without it, although it was IVF and much wanted I felt sooooo bad it was unreal x

I am thankful for not being sick every single day 100 times a day. I’ve only being sick once..but the dry heaving and constantly feeling sick is awful and does make you want to stop in as it’s much easyier to stay in bed where you don’t feel ill then go out and the sickness is increased by the anxiety of the possibility of being sick / feeling sick.

I wasn’t sick much either, 4 times in total (3 before meds 1 after) It was the nausea for me too. I realised I needed help when I stopped eating, spent all day in bed and drank less than 500mls 😢 I hope they listen, the meds are safe and I don’t see why we should suffer unnecessarily x

Yeah it’s awful even though I’m thankful I’m not being sick the feeling sick makes you eat less of course! But yeah it’s not fair to suffer when there’s help

Aw lovely you need to go in and chat to your gp about this.

The meds definitely helped me, some people say the first one they get prescribed doesn’t always do the job so if it doesn’t help go back and ask for a different meds. It helped me within about 48 hours so hopefully it will help you 🤞🏻 xxx

I’ve already called.. told me to ring tomorrow and then they will do a phone appointment .

I’ve got a midwife appointment tomorrow morning as well

Fingers crossed. Just sick of feeling sick. My sickness compared to a lot is mild but thr constant feeling it is rubbish. And dry heaving in public isn’t great

I absolutely feel your pain with the isolation. I’m experiencing bad sickness, currently at 11 weeks and its making me scared to go out incase I’m sick in public. It just creeps up on me so it could happen anywhere and its so embarrassing. I’m scared about what staying in will do to my health, especially if the sickness doesn't subside after the first trimester.

Not really a helpful answer but comforting to know that we aren’t alone x
