10 weeks pregnant and I have CONSTANT heartburn. Everything I eat/drink triggers it, to the point I am hardly eating anything because I cannot stand the pain. Gaviscon doesn't work anymore. I have just been to my GP and she wont prescribe me anything, even though the NHS website says there are options. She says my baby is a miracle because it took me 2 1/2 years to get pregnant and we cannot take any risks. I am not religious so find this language relatively offensive.
I am miserable! And I feel my health and babies health are being impacted by my limited diet. Has anyone been prescribed anything? Or has anyone any relief solutions?

I was like this but mine got worse in the third trimester. my gp wouldn't give me nothing because it took us 5 years to to have baby. gaviscon never worked for me I was just constantly drinking milk.... I would go through 4 pints od milk every couple of days as I found it really worked for me.have you tryed milk to see if that helps. hope you get it sorted xxx
Wow I cant believe they wouldn't give you anything when you got worse. It's making me dread what's to come when I only want to feel happy. I do drink a little milk but not specifically for the heartburn. I read conflicting messages about milk. My doctor said dairy products should be low fat. And some sources say it should be plant based alternatives (which I hate). Did you drink regular semi skimmed, whole or skimmed?
I got prescribed Peptac from my GP too and it does seem to be more effective than gaviscon! xx
I’ve had terrible heart burn and gastric reflux, ended up adding to my morning sickness and causing a cough (which I hadn’t realised was a symptom). On one occasion I threw up blood because of a small graze in my upper digestive tract 🙄
I started with gaviscon, but the only worked briefly. A&E doc prescribed omeprazole and, later on when that stopped working I was prescribed ranitidine - all are thought to be safe in pregnancy. I was reluctant to take anything prescribed initially until I ended up going to hospital and the doctor really encouraged me to do so.
Your doctor sounds anxious rather than willing to inform them self. I’d suggest a chat with your midwife and/or getting a 2nd opinion from another gp if you can.
Ranitidine can be bought over the counter in the chemist at a lower dose than is was prescribed. Some chemists are funny about giving medication to pregnant women that’s not been specifically prescribed (with good reason in some instances) so you might need someone else to get it for you if you decide to try it.
You have my sympathy, it’s miserable when you can’t get a break from it and it’s caused me many sleepless nights.
I’ve been suffering with this too, specially at night. Having very light dinners at least 2 hours before bed and sleeping not fully horizontally but with a bunch on pillows so my chest is up a bit does help. For me it’s sort of come and gone throughout pregnancy, I hope it gets better!
