Low lying placenta

I posted about bleeding a few times from 13 weeks and I'm now 21+1 and still experiencing bleeding. At 20wks scan they said my placenta is very low I have to have three scans at 28,32 and 36 weeks in the hope it has moved out of the way ready for birth. I've just had 2days hospital stay due to bleeding red fresh blood. Also signed off work for four weeks due to it. Has anyone else experience low lying placenta and did you find it moved the further you got in pregnancy. I know they said at the hospital it is quite common and not to worry but obviously you do for your baby

I'm currently in hospital now due to bleeding because of my placenta. Mine was fully covdred at 12wks and at 20wks, just had a scan at 34wks and it had slightly moved but not enough for a natural birth. I only had one bleed before this at 23wks so went 11wks without anything and as soon as I got off the bed today there was a gush of blood so I'm being kept in over night as I could end up having a c-section tomorrow if it doesn't stop. But least there keeping an eye on you. X

Thank you for your reply. It is very scary when these things happen but your in the best place. Hopefully all is well with you. The hospital I have been too is brilliant cannot fault them.

I’ve been told I have a low lying placenta and offered an extra scan an 32 weeks (i’m currently 25 weeks). The sonographer said it’s very common (he’d seen several women that morning with the same issue and it was only 9.30am) and that it often rectifies itself as the uterus grows.

In mentioning it to my midwife she said that the amount the placenta needs to be away from the birth canal/cervix for a safe birth is actually quite a short distance, which gives me hope it’ll sort itself out. If not I presume i’ll be having a planned c-section.

Maybe I should be more concerned than I am at the moment, but I’m just waiting to see what the scan shows in 7 weeks. But then i’ve been fortunate not to have recent bleeding like you; i’m sure i’d be much more worried if I had as the bleeding I experienced at 9 weeks (bright red - when the placenta was kicking in apparently) freaked me out enough!

Thank you for your reply. Hopefully you will be able to have a natural birth and it moves a little more. I've had bleeding through mine and very fresh red in colour which is always concerning but the hospital are brilliant taking it very seriously.
