Low lying placenta 14wks

Hi all just had a scan and found out I have a low lying placenta at 14wks. I understand it can move up but I’m terrified! I have a huge, massive fear of bleeding!

I have been told gentle sex and try not to get constipated!

I now have another thing to stress about 🙈🙈🙈

Anyone had this?

Hi snuggles

Im sorry to hear this. Im behind you by 1 week. Was this your 12 week scan at 14 weeks or in addition to that? Did/do you have any symptoms with it?

I hope it moves up into its correct place.

Ps Have you heard babys heartbeat yet?

Hi thanks for reply. 14 week scan was meant to be reassuring as been of meds for a week. Baby seemed really happy and changed so much in a few weeks.

Hope all is ok with your scan and baby is good. It’s exciting for you too xx

DianeArnold do you have any advice. I think she said it was anterior and low xx

I had a low laying placenta at my 12 weeks scan, when I went back for my 20 week scan it had moved up. Now at 26+5 it’s up high. I would definitely recommend gentle sex and believe me, the bigger your bump gets, becomes uncomfortable anyway. I suffered small amount of dark red discharge a couple of times when had sex, but since then, we have found a position which doesn’t hurt as much and haven’t suffered the discharge since x

Thank you for your reply. I think there will be no sex lol. So glad yours moved up. She did say she wouldn’t normally have said but because we are going away abroad she wanted to alert me to the sex/constipation thing. I will keep my fingers crossed my placenta moves up too. Thank you again and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy xxx

Don't worry my friend. Loss no sleep about it. Low lying placenta at 14 weeks is not a problem and should not give you cause to worry. As the pregnancy advances and the uterus gets bigger, the placenta migrates ( moves away ) from the internal os (the cervical end of the uterus). You will see by the time you have your next scan it might not be there or the distance of the leading edge of the placenta from the os must have increased.

One thing with low lying placenta is that it can trigger small bleeds or spotting in pregnancy . Most times it happens after vigorous sex session. If you want to have it, be gentle and avoid significant deep penetration as not to hit the cervix during copulation. That means you need to let your partner be aware of this. And ride smoothly.

Apart from this, I don't think you need to bother much about anything. Enjoy your pregnancy dear.

Thank you for your reassurance. I think there will be no sex lol. Bleeding terrifies me. I had a big blood transfusion years ago due to a complication hence why I am so scared.

I will keep everything crossed it moves up.

Thank you again xx

I found out I had this towards the end of pregnancy . They said it might move but it didn’t. It didn’t cause any problems until I suddenly started bleeding at 38 ish weeks which was a bit scary. They kept me in hospital and I had an elective C-sec a few days later.

Which was amazing. Couldn’t fault that experience.
