Spotting during first trimester

Hi all

Im now 7wks pg by my dates and on the 6/12 I had very little pinkish/reddish spotting when wiping I put in a pad it did not fill it but there was some brownish blood on it..

I called the 111 and was only told what I already knew to wait and see how it goes. The next day I called my doctor and he got me in for an early scan the same day had an internal (transvaginal scan) and doc said that she could see a pregnancy but no baby. She said that this could mean that I was earlier than the docs guesstimate based on dates. I am booked in for another scan for the 21/12.

I went home no more bleeding over the weekend or Monday morning.. Monday afternoon when wiping red spotting 2hrs later I have brown spotting/discharge.

I don't know if I should wait the 2 weeks or call my doc as I've had 2 mcs before but both been very different to this time.

Wondering if anyone has been or is going through the same thing? And just looking for some advice really. Thanks☺

I know its always a worry I've had a little brown then pink when wiping too just before 6w I chose to do nothing and wait. Ive had 2 prev mc too but had no bleeding until after 12w. I have scan on friday 14th so be nearly 9w hopefully it'll be ok and give me some reasurance. Its up to you, if you go and its still too early youll have to back again anyway.

Thanks for the reply. It's always a worry when it's early days but with my mc I had no pain or bleeding and hcg levels were all good until 1 scan at 12wks found out I had mc with twins and that was the reason my hcg levels were still high, with 2nd mc I had bleeding rather than spotting and no pain until after mc was confirmed. I know that this type of bleeding/spotting is supposed to be common but it's the not knowing I think that's getting to me more.

I had some bleeding at 12w got a scan was a blighted ovum so no baby just the sac, my next was at the 12w scan baby had stopped around 9w started mc about 3 days later. People always think you get massive cramps and bleeding straight away with mc's.

So what you going to do? if its worrying you why not ring and see what they say they might tell you to wait anyway or come in earlier.

Yeah I know that's the big misunderstanding that everyone thinks.

I think I'll wait until my next scan as spotting has stopped now but I'll keep an eye on it and take notes to give them when I see them. There would be no point in me going to them again as they could only see the yolk sack before so still too early to tell.

Sorry your going through this and the not knowing and having to wait.

I had a missed miscarriage last year with twins had no pains or bleeding and found out at my scan 13 weeks and they stopped at 9/10 but had to have them surgically removed as they didn’t want to come away. I am now expecting my rainbow baby and got 2 & half weeks left , as much as I’m happy to have my little baby I’ve not stopped worrying every day and don’t think I’ll stop til I’ve had him.

Try and rest as much as possible Hunni and take your vitamins. I wish you and little bean well. Xx

Thanks hun.. That's how I've been since finding out I was pregnant.. I'd love to rest but was working 40+ hrs pw and now reduced to 35 but it's keeping my mind off it a bit I guess.

Aw hun hopefully your second trimester will be a lot more easy going for you, make sure you rest when you can at work take breaks etc xx

Yeah I hope so too. I'm just going to try and take it as easy as I can. Easier said then done I know.

Went to the toilet a little while ago and a little more brown spotting/discharge but no pain so that should in theory be a good sign. Xx

Yeah the usual folic acid and ferrous fumarate and I'm also taking seven seas pregnancy for all stages of the pregnacy which has loads of vitamins and minerals in it. Xx

So I monitored my spotting over night (mostly brown and small) as it started again due to this horrible cough I have, and again this morning while I was out at work as it turned brown to a bit red I called my docs couldn't speak to him but was basically told off by the receptionist and told to go home and rest and wait for my doctor to call me back. So I'm now bored watching daytime tv😑 and twiddling my thumbs.

On the plus side the spotting has slowed right down and is brown again. Xx

I had a similar thing happen to me I started spotting and after suffering with a miscarriage previously i thought the worst and it broke me I thought it’s all happening again, I went to the hospital for a scan when they said it was too early and couldn’t see a baby I went back a week later and there was a little bean, I know it’s hard to think positive after what you’ve been through but I think things will be fine for you, the brown blood could just be your body getting rid of old blood that was left, I’ll cross my fingers that everything is ok for you, but miracles do happen, I’m now 17 weeks and I’m so excited for the rest of my journey x
