Solids?

So my baby is 3 and a half months and I’m just wondering when other mothers have started the weaning process to solids? I feel my little one will be ready anytime from now but I will wait till 4 months. However, I’m still not 100% sure. Do you think it’s too soon to let him have a taste of the baby rice? Not like a bowl full maybe a spoon. Just wanna hear opinions.

The NHS advice is 6 months but if there is a medical reason you should start early then it’s up to you. I would speak to your health visitor though x

if theres medical reasons you'd have medical support. you shouldnt take that into your own hands. get advice from health professionals always!

wai til 6 months, theres reasons for these guildlines! whats the rush and impatience?

Wow no need to be rude. I wasn’t suggesting she just do it off her own back

What makes you think you're baby is ready. The advice is 6 months, my little one is almost 4months but I'm definitely going to wait.

When you do start don't bother with baby rice, it has no nutritional value & is just a filler.

Wait until six months. Read up on the nhs advice and don’t listen to other mums who tell you they need solids at four months.

They say 6 mths they used to advise from 4 mths but decided to skip the purée stage and go straight to solid finger foods.

6 months - then we did baby-led weaning, which was such an easy (albeit messy!) ride. Would thoroughly recommend.

Why do you want to let him a ‘taste of baby rice’? Are you just really keen for him to be part of your eating routine?

Iv Spoken to a lot of friends and they said it’s good to give tastes here and there before you actually start proper weaning. As it helps the transition Better. But I’m not really sure. I completely forgot how it works.

The first two weeks of weaning from 6 months Can be all about tasting different tastes.

You don't have to get straight into a routine. If your wanting to do it before 6months then normally it's only on advice of a professional. I started at 4 months but only as we have a dietician x

I’d just be cautious about feeding too soon, he’ll get what he needs from your milk...

Mine started weaning at 6 months. My son turned quickly into a perfect eater, eating all veggies etc apart from mushrooms. I felt the baby-led aspect really helped.

My daughter took a lot longer, she mainly lived off milk until 10 months. Both are happy and healthy, both were weaned the same way, but it took them different time frames to get used to it all and my daughter is fussier than my son... so I think lots has to do with the kid themselves.

But at 3.5 months I personally don’t think it’s advisable..

I started feeding my now 4 year old at like 3 and a half months, I mixed her formula with a bit of baby rice/porridge like once a day and she loved it, I just found that she didn't seem satisfied with the milk xxxxxx

The babies gut is not mature enough to handle foods until 6 months old. Its also important that other milestones are met as well as age, like being able to sit up unassisted as this minimises the risk of baby choking. Also, products like baby rice have no nutritional value, and can be hard on their digestive systems causing things like constipation. Giving them 'little tastes' serves no benefit and will only piss baby off as they get a little older as they will want the whole thing. Wait until at leaat 6 months. And even then, food before 1 is mainly for fun.
