Not pregnant but just had a little girl 22 weeks. Had a smear test and come back with hpv virus possible cervical cancer???

Hi all, wow talk about my head being a complete mess! If anyone reads this please make sure you have regular smear tests.

I had my baby , I have also 4 boys that are older 14,16,19 & 23. But I had my smear test done over 10 weeks ago. I discovered that I've had a total prolapse rectum and really bad lower and middle back ache. So went to go to have a check up, she said that my cervix was red and bulky? She said she was concerned. So sat at her desk and she told me that my results were in and I got the hpv virus and that she thinks I possibly have cancer down below... everything has been a blur since. Appointments booked for hospital 16th November.

Anyone on here been through this????

My mum had womb cancer over 4 years ago and had a it all taken away and is fine now.

Hopefully, if it is anything nasty, they’ve caught it early. Good luck with your next appointment - probably feels like a long time away. Was it your GP you saw who said your cervix looked red and bulky or a doctor at the colposcopy unit?

Hi Michelle, try not to worry about the hpv, a huge percentage of the population have it.

In many areas now if you have hpv you’ll get a smear test every year or every 3 if you don’t.

The nurse should never be saying to someone she thinks they have cancer! She should be sending your sample off for the test and then yes referring if she is worried before tests come back but she can not tell from just looking. I’m sorry you have been put in this situation. Hopefully you might get your test results back before the appt. and even then there is various changes in the cervix that can happen well before actual cancer that they can treat ! X

I have gone through this. It’s so very hard emotional and physically to deal with one try not to panic it doesn’t help. I’m not sure how they do everything where your from but I’m in Canada and what they did with me is I had to go to the cancer women’s clinic where they did a biopsy of my cervix. Once they sent that off they found out they needed to do a LEEP which they use electronic rods to cut the cancer cells out from the cervix and then they stop the bleeding with heat. I had to have a Pap test done every six months for 2 years if they all came back normal. I got switched to a pap every year now I have been perfect since the LEEP. When they catch you these things in good timing there’s honestly nothing to much to worry about but sometimes depending where it is etc they remove the problems you will be ok **hugs**
