Didn’t you say you have PCOS and a really irregular cycle though?

It must be really difficult to know when you’re late, or even if you’ve missed a period, but testing too much can also be disappointing if you test early.

Give it a couple of weeks and test again.

I have pcos, have really irregular cycles (anything from 25-75 days), am an older mum (39) and had been TTC for 3 years, so can relate to a lot of what you've said. Realistically, if you want to 'catch' your fertile window and the time you ovulate when you are irregular you need to have sex every 2 days from approximately day 4 until your next period starts. Sometimes when you have pcos you don't always ovulate, or it can be different times each cycle, and ovulation tests can miss your actual ovulation.

ohh really I bought some ovulation tests. how do I know if I am ovulating, how long do I try for will I need clomid

By all means use ovulation sticks, but i had lots of false positives which many but not all women with PCOS experience. Ovulation sticks look for an LH surge indicating the release of an egg. When you have PCOS, you may have many small cysts releasing normal amounts of LH which is picked up by the ovulation stick (and you haven't released an egg/ovulated) . The clear blue digital ovulation monitors even have a disclaimer saying its not accurate for people with PCOS.

To increase your chances of conception, you need to have sex every 2 days from about day 4, until your next period. It used to be that GP's will require you to try this for a year before any fertility support, however i know lots of local NHS trusts are removing any fertility support, so you may have to go to a private fertility clinic and self fund.

There is a clinic that says they will offer help if they can, I suspect if I can get investigatory bloods they might help? what do you think?

Have you ever had day 21 bloods?

Yes, have had numerous blood tests relating to fertility investigations over the years. One thing to remember is that if you have pcos and irregular cycle length is that what happens one month may not happen the next. For example i had several blood tests to look for ovulation. On 5 occasions (cycles) they showed i hadn't ovulated and 2 cycles that showed i had. Due to my cycle length, this meant i may only ovulate 2 or 3 times a year. As ovulation sticks can give false positives when you have pcos and the infrequency of ovulation, that's why you need to have sex every 2 days to try to catch these rare ovulation times.

I also found acupuncture helped me conceive with both of my children.

How long should I try before going to Gp - and after all that trying will they take me for granted

Maltr in reply toBluelady-sing

Sorry, i don't understand. Will who take you for granted? You should certainly try the every 2 days method for 6 months, then visit your GP. Often they expect you to try for over a year before conducting any tests, but due to your age (sorry, not being rude), they may start testing after 6 months.

I worry my Gp and midwifes might take me for granted. I wish I had known all of this. Every time I see other people with children I feel maybe its not for me
