Tampon problem!

Georgina_D profile image
14 Replies

I had a baby 6 months ago with an episiotomy as well as a 3rd degree tear. I have been stitched up too much (vaginal entrance too small to even have sex).

Today I managed to insert a small (tampax Pearl light) tampon with lube but it hurts too much to pull it out! The pain seems to be inside under episiotomy scar.

I've not had a period or been able to have sex since I gave birth, I just wanted to see if my bits were normal :s don't know what to do now. Tampon has been in situ about an hour.

If you're really struggling then you might have to go to a&e I'm afraid.

Maybe try putting some ice in a cloth there for a little bit to numb the area first?

Pls don't go to a&e... go to your gp on Tuesday and they will have a look. I wouldn't use tampons if it hurts stick to pads. It's unlikely they stitched too much more likely that's there is still a fair amount of scar tissue and not fully healed yet, but you need someone to look ... might just need some extra time to heal

No I didn't force it in bit it was uncomfortable. I managed to take it out slowly with loads of painkillers.

Omg and there was blood on tampon. I think I have a lot of scarring :(

Why are putting in a tampon if not your period? I wouldn't start worrying too much... get it checked out first... scar tissue is fairly normal at 6 weeks... personally wouldn't have tried anything until I get it checked first with a third degree tear. I had this with my first and didn't have sex for about 3 months and then had to take it slowly but it was fine eventually... so try not to worry it just early days.

Are you getting a post natal check? It worth doing this normally around first set of jabs for baby and you can discuss things including contraception for when sex does happen!

I think it’s 6 months post-partum not 6 weeks so would imagine post-natal checks have already happened...

Glad you managed to get it out Georgina_D. Have you been back to your doctor to see if there’s anything that can be done to help? Could they refer you to gynaecologist if you’re not already referred to them?

Already seen a gynaecologist who keeps fobbing me off. She said everything looks normal and it's too early for surgery! She said she's never repaired this early aftet a baby as most women see her after 18 months!

Did she suggest anything that can make it less tight/painful? I know being very tense about will make it worse so maybe lots of lub and alcohol is the way forward 😳

Physio said I should use lots of lube and make sure I'm turned on! But I'm not tense.. I've given birth and had lots of sex in my hay days. A mini tampon should not hurt! I'm convinced I'm not stitched up right. I might go to another trust to get another opinion x

No a small tampon should not hurt. Have you tried sticking ur little finger in? Lol tmi I know but if you haven't tried might be worth to have a feel around or ask you partner to have a peak 😅

Yes tried finger. Also hurts and entrance feels stiff :(

It could well be scar tissue then... not a bad idea to ask for a second opinion as it's obviously affecting your life

Ignore all I said... it's been 6 months... get it checked from gp and ask if you need a referral!!
