Pregnancy Headaches

jessicagrace2942 profile image

I am 17 weeks pregnant and really suffering with headaches. I have been told by my GP to take paracetamol as little as possible but sometimes i feel like i need to take it because i cant cope with the pain.

Any suggestions of other things I could try? I drink so much water already, dont think my bladder could take any more water .

Thank you

Jess

How often are you using paracetamol? If you are needing it then I would say use it as long as you're not having more than 8 a day.

Things that can help depends if type of headache, but some foods can something's trigger headaches, darkness can help with migraine headaches, if it's more stress related walking/exercise might help. It's a matter of trial and error really

Probably about 4 -6 a day depending on how long I can hold out before the pain gets too much.

It seems to be in the evenings more! Hopefully it passes soon so I can enjoy my second trimester

I have the same problem but paracetamol doesn't even touch my headaches. I'm seeing consultant next week so I'll let you know if I get any insight

Hi girls try Vicks vapour rub and put it on your forehead and temples and nape of neck at bedtime you can rub in feet too, it’s an old remedy but it’s good and works xx

Don’t feel bad about taking paracetamol it’s fine for you and baby. I found those cooling migraine gel pads that you put on your forehead really helpful x

Make sure you’re drinking enough water. I was similar in my first & second trimester of my pregnancy and I found I wasn’t drinking enough. Once I drank more the headaches eased and finally stopped. I had to carry a bottle of water everywhere with me so that I was always drinking.

In pregnancy, your blood volume doubles so you need to drink more than before to keep hydrated.

Good luck!

I suffered with headaches when I was 15-20 weeks and I found the forehead cooling stick really helped x

I also suffered with headaches at about that time, almost every day and sometimes verging (but not quite) on a migraine. I took paracetemol regularly, and also aspirin - am on a daily dose of aspirin for pre-eclampsia anyway so if I have a really bad headache I take two instead of one. Headaches are really common in pregnancy but one thing to look out for is pre-eclampsia - if you have any sudden swelling or pain under your ribs call your GP or midwife straight away. I think a lot of my headaches were down to muscle tension so I found massage really helped too. Eating regularly, trying to relax and getting gentle exercise can also help.

With headaches the best thing to do is to put something cold on ur head it's just that the nerves r swollen so just but a hot water bottle with ice cold water on ur head and cover ur eyes with a cold face cloth for about an hour and u will feel better
