Hi guys im 24 weeks pregnant & i need some advice. I work as a caregiver. i take care of a client in her home. I know im not supposed to carry more than 25 pounds at least thats what my doctor said. But i need to work t she can stand with my help and walk a couple steps. I noticed its starting to get hard for me to transfer her from the bed to the wheelchair. Anyways my husband & i just got our own place & if i stop working wont be able to afford this place. Im so stressed i don’t know what to do. My doctor for sure wont give me disability because my pregnancy is not high risk. & i cant get unemployment because im not getting fired from my work. Is there any other help i can get that im not aware off ? Or em i not really understanding how unemployment & Disability work ?

If your client is struggling with your assistance sounds like she needs a review from occupational health - there are always various mobility and transfer aids that can be added to her home to take the strain off you, as even if you weren’t pregnant you should be keeping manual handling to a minimum. I would imagine you would be entitled to a risk assessment now you’re pregnant as well to ensure you’re not putting yourself at risk - these are legal requirements. Good luck!
