Exhausted mum and daughter 😕

My 5 months old daughter used to sleep 7/8 hours straight during the night, then have a quick snack (bf) and get back to sleep for another 3 hours. During the day she used to have 2 naps of about 1h and 30 mins /2 hours. Suddenly, she began to wake up twice or 3 times during the night , but still having good naps during the day. I was tired , but not too bad. Last week we flew to Italy to visit my family and after a couple of days here she's been waking up every 2/3 hours during the night, or sometimes she doesn't want to go back to sleep or she wants to sleep only at my breast and she has only 40 mins/1h during the day after she screamsthe house down. She was very easy putting herself to sleep. We needed only to stand next to her and she fell asleep inthe cot with no fuss at all.

We're both exhausted and grumpy. She doesn't want to sleep but she's clearly very tired and therefore she cries and she's cranky. I don't know how to help her.

Thank you for your help and advice.

babies go through phases of sleep disturbances, its just something they do mine started one a few months ago and is still on it at ten months, im afraid perseverance is the major thing unless you think shes in pain and thats what is causing it in which case take her to the doctors better them tell you nothing wrong than something getting missed

My 5 month old fights sleep constantly, she has 2 naps a day and has started to sleep through the night but will wake a few times. I have heard that they go through a growth spurt around this time which makes them fussier and affects their sleep patterns. My little one also had a horrible cold and is suffering with teething pains so wakes up several times a night. We tend to soothe her n pop her back in bed, giver her her dummy n a cuddle and pop her back to sleep. During the day I try when I see she’s getting tired to stop any play and get her calmed down and into her bed for a sleep, I give her dummy and have on occasion had to let her cry it out slightly for a few seconds before soothing her and trying again. I hope this is just a phase for you, a few of my mummy friends had the dreaded 4 month sleep regression. Has your little one been suffering with teething or had a cold recently? Hope you n your little one manage to get better sleep soon. Sorry I’m not able to offer any great advice xx

We'e just started the regression too. My boy slept as your lo did. Now he can be up multiple times and often only wants to sleep at the breast. It will pass my daughter was the same and settled again at about 6 months with only 1 night waking. It's a time when they develop a lot of new skills and their sleep cycles become more similar to an adults and they are adjusting.

Sadly no advice to make it go any quicker but hopefully knowing that it does stop will be some comfort. Keep telling myself this in the middle of the night. It will come to an end 😁

Thank you very much. It's a big support knowing I'm not alone and I know it will pass, it's just stressing. She slept better yesterday, waking up only twice. But still falling asleep only at the breast. I believe she may be teething. Yesterday was a nightmare of night and day, but I'll stay strong and fingers crossed it will pass quick. Xxx
