I don't, have no personal advice, but my sil had this mentioned while she, was pregnant with my neice she already had my nephew a few years before . They would check her every now and then and it ended up where she didn't have to have the stitch and she gave birth at the right time and everything was fine. Keep in their backs if your worried hun. Hope it gets sorted either, way, and you get reassured xxxx
Hey I had lletz and had my cervical length measured by means of a scan done vaginally, I think it was checked 3/4 times and it was fine, so I didn’t need the stitch. I’m pg now 14 weeks and will have it done at 16 weeks first x
Thanks so much for your reply. I’m actually seeing my midwife again this morning as one of my blood tests didn’t result so they need to take it again and I think I’ll ask her roughly when it’ll be just to put my mind at ease xxx
Yeah deffo do and you know you can always call her too if you’ve any questions at all. Are you going to be under consultant led care or just midwife? xxx
No date she said I’d be contacted by letter but I’m sure she said it would likely be around 20w as well. I asked at my scan yesterday as I had my first NHS scan and they told me then as well that my cervical length scan will be at 20w.
I’ve just text my friend as she had the same treatment as me, about a couple of weeks later and she fell pregnant not too long after so just finding out from her if and when she had hers done xxx
Hmm I guess if that’s what they do as standard in your area there’s not much that can be done other than book a private cervical length scan in your area. That might just reassure you in the interim, or, if it is short then you can go to midwife with letter and say you want something doing now x
Thank you. I’m seeing my midwife again today as one of my blood tests didn’t result so I’ll ask her again about it, they’ve given me a date for a 16 week appointment but it’s with a midwife. I’d really rather have it checked ASAP 😖 so worrying isn’t it? Xxx
Yeah it's worrying my midwife couldn't really answer me which I found annoying I thought she could at least try and find out. She said I would be appointed a consultant at 16wks due to ivf and classes as high risk. I hope by then it's not too late. Hope you get on well today with your midwife. Let me know what she says x
Hey just to let uo I know I’ve spoken with my midwife to ask when I’ll have my cervix checked and she said it’ll be at my 20 week scan. Just praying that all will be ok until then. I can’t believe they check these things so late when it’s something so important xxx
Thank you so much for letting me know, I'll still ask the question see what answer I get my midwife didn't seem to have a clue to be honest.
Fingers crossed everything will be ok anyway. Everything that is a worry to us, isn't too them but I guess we have we have been through to get here is so precious x
Hi, I had 2 easy pregnancies 19 and 23 years ago, then a letz procedure around 10 years ago and 2 miscarriages since. When I got pregnant again I was very worried and kept mentioning the cervix thing to the doctor's. There was a lot of confusion and long story short they didn't scan for cervical length until after my 20 week scan which is unusually late. They then recommended the stitch which we went for at 23 weeks. From what we learned it's better to have it sooner than that as the risks are lower. When we were in surgery they found there wasn't enough cervix to stitch at that point and I was given daily progesterone treatment until 34 weeks to keep the cervix hard instead and kept on complete rest until 30 weeks to reduce the risk of premature labour.
The whole pregnancy has been worrisome but we are now full term and, unbelievably, having to have labour helped along today.
Try not to let worry stop you enjoying the magic but push for that cervical length scan early. I can't be sure but I think we were told 14 weeks would have been better.
Thank you so much for your reply and I’m very sorry to hear about your losses.
That is what I read online that it’s preferably done 12-14 weeks and I was thinking well no chance mine will be done by then! Which is worrying.
I’m seeing my midwife again this morning as one of my blood tests didn’t result so they have to do it again so I think I’ll ask her just to see if she can give me a rough idea of when it’ll be.
When they know you’ve had treatment then I think it’s something they should be looking at right away! Xxx
Hi I can imagine how worried you have been. I had a previous miscarriage at 17weeks and for my next pregnancy I was checked for cervix length it was shortening and got a stitch put in literally the next day - they suggested progesterone inserts but I just couldn’t take the uncertainty- it held off and was taken out at 37weeks I then went full term so it certainly did it’s job. The procedure is pretty routine and can be done under local or with a spinal epidural thing - I don’t remember the name now. Don’t worry but push for the measurement- good luck
