I'm 13 weeks pregnant and had my scan and every thing is ok, today I got a call from my hospital saying I lack iron which is ok, but they have asked my boyfriend to go and have a blood test! Why does he have to have one ?

My boyfriend had to have one as my haemoglobin is type AC and I have sickle cell trait. I was told it was just a precaution

Thank you I'm mixed race but don't have sickle cell but was tested! I just wasn't sure why he needed a blood test. Thank you for your reply

Hi natalie. Its just screening for thalassemia which is protocol with women who have a history of anaemia
