What could be the problem with why my periods haven't restarted

I have been on the pill about 7 years and my periods stopped. Prior to that they were erratic. Me and my husband decided at Christmas to start trying to have baby. As of yet my periods have not restarted. What could be wrong? I am overweight could this be the cause? Help!! This is depressing me!

Hi. After 7 years on the pill, it may take a long time for your cycle to start again. Your weight may indeed be the cause, or a contributing factor. Dont let it get you down. Id get an appointment with a gp and see if they can run any tests, or even just give you some reassurance that after so long on the pill, its fairly normal for things to take a while. They will be able to assist with some weight advice if you want too. Xx

I had very regular periods before being on mini pil for ten years.during my time on pill I had no periods. I am very overweight bmi>40.it took 6months from stopping pill until periods restarted and then they were very irregular. Saw gp who took bloods to check thyriod and blood sugar levels. She also told me it would be average if it took me a year to conceive. I came off the pill in December and was pregnant in September. I did try to lose some weight but only lost a stone so was stiil very overweight when I conceived. It will happen for you just be patient. If you want to help it happen quicker try to lose some weight. Also make sure hubby it doing his share of the conception prep by being healthy, taking zinc supplements.

Bearing in mind this was a long time ago and the pill will have changed since then. My mum was on the pill for three years before starting to try for me, she fell pregnant with me three years later having not had a period, so she had no idea she was pregnant until she had morning sickness!

I agree with the other ladies see your doctor and try to lose a bit of weight, it will happen when your body is ready.
