Sorry for 2nd post.....

Lo is nearly 6 months and hes started to make like a fist and smacks himself in the face repeatedly, and hits himself in the face with his rattle.... is this normal lol. Don't want the struggle of letting it escalate as he gets older.

Thanks ladies in advance.

My little boy was terrible for hitting himself, also head butting the floor when crawling and even people. I took him to see my dr as I worried he was showing early signs of ADHD. My dr said just leave him to it, ignore him n he will stop when he really hurts himself!! Not the best advice in my opinion. I decided to start telling him no and putting him in his cot or pushchair when he did it to stop him hurting himself. It took 2 weeks to stop him doing it and now at 7 years old we laugh about how the vicar was too scared to hold him at his christening in case he got a head butt!! Lol. I think it was just a way of him trying to express his feelings be it either frustration or happiness but I would recommend telling him no and taking the rattle away, maybe holding down his hands gently to stop him, I wouldn't let him carry on without intervention. Hope this helps.

My 6 month old is also at a stage of banging everything (including himself) with whatever he can get his hands on. I think it's a fairly normal part of development as they are beginning to explore and test the world around themselves. If I feel he is hurting himself, I'll do a swap and give him softer to hold - the problem now being that he has cottoned on to this and wails when things are taken away! It is a good stage to start teaching the word 'no' as they are starting to become somewhat mobile and encountering potential dangers .
