So I supposedly couldn't have children and found at (at 4 months) that I am pregnant. My question is this- alcohol....

I was run down and tired the first 2 months (obviously not realising why) and abstained from drink and anything chemical so its only the past 8 weeks. I have been having 2 glasses of either cider or wine twice a week. No binge drinking, no smoking and I only drink one cup of tea a day. Just normal (as before pregnancy) intake... I don't go crazy and never have more than 2 drinks with a meal.

Do you ladies know of others in this situation? The reason I am asking is that some medical professional friends are telling me I am fine, that the likelihood of damage is low because its not a large amount. And I also have friends who drank a few glasses of wine each week and their kids are fine.... but I would like other opinions as some people are making me feel so guilty and its becoming unbearable.

In that case enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!its a great time of your life xx congratulations again

Oh wow! What great news to get especially when you've been told it wasn't possible,

I'm sure the damage will & is very minimal to be honest as child defects which are maybe caused by drinking of alcohol or etc... Are usually known to be around or after the 2nd trimester of pregnancy.

In your case there's no need to feel guilty as you weren't aware.

So good luck & I'm sure you'll get to enjoy your pregnancy & beyond.

xx

Babies are quite resilient and we don't give their strength enough credit. Im sure plenty of healthy babies are born to mums who drank to excess all the way through the 1st trimester as they weren't aware of their pregnancy. Right up until the 80s, women smoked n drank during pregnancy and didn't slow their intake and their kids were happy n healthy. Please don't feel guilty as I'm sure ur baby is perfect.

The official guidelines is to drink no more than 2 - 4 units a week during pregnancy and no more than 200mg of caffeine a day (tea only has 50mg per cup). Uve been doing exactly what u should have done. Congrats on ur pregnancy, ur going make a fantastic mum xx

I was told by my old boss and her friends that they drank as many gin and tonics they could get down on a Fri night when pregnant and smoked!.. It's how it was 26-30 years ago and their children are fine. .. What u drunk was a low amount people drink that who are pregnant and know about it so pls try not to worry and woohoo congratulations xx

I'm sure all will be fine. I found out I was pregnant early at 5 weeks BUT I'd been hammered twice at a wedding n a lovely afternoon down the pub just as I'd fallen pregnant!!! 2 drinks a week isn't much anyway and my midwife tells me that if I fancy a glass of wine while I'm pregnant to have one and not be miserable :-)! I've continued to have a drink if I fancy one throughout my pregnancy. I wouldn't worry at all and enjoy your scans :-) good luck

In my opinion you have nothing to worry about! I pretty much stopped drinking when I found out I was pregnant but still had a glass of red wine, or a beer once or twice a week during pregnancy -like giggly sheep said you're actually allowed a couple of units a week anyway. If you're still worried have it with food.

Congratulations, I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 3.5 months gone. In that time I'd been on a few heavy nights out and run the London marathon and was concerned when the doctor broke the news to me about being pregnant. He said not to worry. From that point I never drunk as it never appealed. I now have a healthy daughter who is 4 months old. She did decide to make a 6 week early appearance in to this world but I was assured that it had no baring to what I done prior to finding out I was pregnant, she was just impatient.
