So yesterday I found out I am going to be a mum for the first time. Me and my husband are so excited! I think it's still really early stages as I predict I'm about 4 weeks - a long way to go!!
Over the last couple of months I have been suffering with back pain and recently went to a chiropractor who informed me that I have a twisted pelvis. To ease the pain I have been taking a mixture of paracetamol, codeine and ibuprofen.
Since finding out I'm pregnant I have stopped taking everything and only taking paracetamol when really need it.
However I have read that taking ibuprofen in the early stages can cause heart defects and potential miscarriages. Is this true?? What should I do?? Starting to worry a little! If I had any idea I was pregnant I wouldn't have taken it. I am yet to see my GP, just waiting for an appointment.
Please give any advice you may have.
Thanks
Em

The chances are that you will be absolutely fine with it being so early. Give the gp another call and ask for them to give you a call back so you can discuss it with them?
Hi Emma,
I agree with Jemma85, as it is still very early days everything should be fine, even though I wouldn't reccomend a knowingly expectant mother to take ibuprofen I believe a lot the advise out there " especially online" is known to only scaremonger us.
Oh & of course Congratulations on your pregnancy
Hey, and congratulations!
I didn't realise that I was pregnant until about 6 weeks, and had been caning the Ibuprofen for about a month beforehand (I got tattooed several times - also a no no - and had been taking it to ease swelling).
I'm 25+6 weeks now, and so far everything is going ok.
My advice is to ignore what Google/websites in general have to say about it. If there was a problem with you having taken it, you would have now by now. Hope this helps X
Thank you so much for your advice. It has put my mind at rest! I will call the GPs today to make an appointment to confirm I'm pregnant and I'll also let them know about the medication.
congratulations and I agree with rest of ladies, nearly 5 years ago i took ibuprofen and had severe allergic reaction, then found out i am pregnant, i have 4 year old healthy boy. don't worry, take thing easy, rest and follow your cravings, your body will tel you what your baby needs to grow.
I suffer with migraines and take nurofen express (on dr's advice) to stop them so as soon as I found out I was pregnant (about 10 weeks now) I mentioned this to them and I was told as long as its during the first 2 trimesters its ok it is only in the final trimester that it becomes dangerous and can affect babies heart. The logic behind this was that the Ibroprufen is better than the migraine for both of us, I'd still speak to your Dr to check but thought I'd add my experience.
