Just found out I'm pregnant what next?
I think You have to be registered with a gp as they have to refer you to the community midwife I know I had to be reffered on both pregnancies x
You will need to register with a gp anyway in case you need them through pregnancy, so would ring your local surgery to do that, but they should be able to give you number for making your booking appointment without actually having to see the gp. Oh and congratulations x
I was registered with the GP but just booked an appointment with the midwife directly. Many congratulations x
Thanks for all your replies could I just ask how did you book a appointment with your midwife direct who did you ring? X
That's what I was thinking was ringing the hospital it said I can't get seen by gp till my medical records are through and I don't know how far along I am due to irregular periods it's impossible to tell x
Congratulations. I recently registered with a new GP as we moved house....I was able to make an appointment with one as soon as I had given them all the forms even though my records weren't through....maybe ring the Doctors you are registering with and explain you need seeing. It was pretty simple to register...few forms to fill in and then had to take 2 lots of id in for them to see. Also if you havnt already you could do with starting to take Folic acid daily....is very important at start of pregnancy. Good luck xxx
I did exactly the same, found out 2 weeks ago and had no doctor. i went to the walk in clinic who sent me to town who sent me to a doctor who wouldnt register me when i finally found the right one. Just get yourself registered with your nearest doctor and tell them you need an appointment with the midwife. My doctors have been really helpful. But the important thing is not to panic, you're probably only 4 or 5 weeks so you dont actually have to see your midwife for a few weeks yet. I thought i had to do it all in the same day but dont worry, you have some time, just get registered and the doctors will tell you everything you need to know. Congrats! get on the folic acid xx
You don't need a GP to book in with your local maternity unit, but you will need a GP for continuity of care etc x
