Hello girls I was wondering if any of you had a cold during pregnancy I have one since more than one week and the cough doesn't want to go, sometimes it hurts in my belly when i cough, the midwife said all I could do was wait for it to finish but I am worried it will affect the baby.

Cold during pregnancy
If its a common cold it should not generally effect the baby. But would advise to see your GP still.
I had cold for 10 days between my first and second trimester and I drank a lot of lemon, ginger and honey mixed in warm water (although that might constipate some people, so its good to increase your fiber intake or take a stool-softener additionally).
I normally take sugar in coffee or tea and I replaced it with honey.
also a pinch of salt in your drinks might do good to your throat.
And gargle (you can ask GP for any medic stuff to add to water) or can use salt and honey in warm water or Paracetamol (I was alternating between salt-honey and paracetamol) and gargling every time I felt more stuffy.
Hope this would help !
Hiya.i've had cold before and used lemon and honey to drink, honey on my cereal, and paracetamol.i got rid of it after two weeks.i've got cold again now so it looks like i'm back on honey&lemon again.i dont think that cold harms the baby.but when i developed cough i got checked out in case if its chest infection.the only thing i hate about drinking lemon is heartburn i get hope you get rid of it quick hun xx
Yes, I had a terrible cold for about a month. Very frustrating. Lots of honey and lemon and Vicks vapour rub is all you can take unfortunately. Hope you feel better soon
Hi, with my last pregnancy i had a bad cold/cough that.lasted around 3 weeks. In the end i was given anti-biotics for the cough because my last chest wasn't 100%. the same happened the month later but it was middle of winter. Could it be allergies? My hay fever sometimes feels like a cold.
Hi there, I also had a long-running cough (for about 6 weeks) and having seen my GP about it I took amoxycillin (common anti-biotic) for 7 days. I think this had pretty much got rid of it, but then I got a cold on top of that and a horrid chesty cough. After a couple of days of coughing so much that I kept being sick (nice) I went back to the doctors and my GP gave me another course of a different antibiotic - erthromycin.
My GP checked that this one was also ok to take during pregnancy and confirmed it was, though some of the potential side effects mimic some of the common pregnancy symptoms like diahorrea (spelling?) etc..
I started taking this one on Saturday and (perhaps coincidentally) had bad tummy cramps, felt sick and couldn't get off the loo - so decided to stop taking it. Who knows if this was linked, but I decided to stop anyway and think the cough will work itself out in a few days (hopefully). (The amount of cake I also consumed on Saturday may have played a factor!)
I've also been taking honey & glycerin linctus from boots (one of the few/only cough mixtures it's ok to take while pregnant/breast-feeding - says so on the bottle) and did a bit of steam + vicks inhalation last night.
I have the same thing as you in that my tummy often hurts after coughing, to the point where I want to cough but try to stop myself to avoid the pain. It's good to know that your midwife says that coughing doesn't affect the baby. Certainly my GP didn't seem to be concerned about that and just checked with the stethoscope to ensure I was getting air to all parts of my lungs.
Hope you get rid of your cough soon (I think honey & glycerin linctus is worth a try - though it is the sweetest thing ever). I'm hoping that I get rid of mine before planned c-section on Tuesday. Not sure I want to be coughing like this with a big scar
Helen
