Change of diet

Wanted to share that I was also told at my LSE clinic to rethink my diet. They advised the following:-

Peel all fruit and vegetables before eating

Try to decrease the amount of food on my plate by say a third

Avoid wholemeal or seeded bread stick to white

Avoid nuts and seeds together and limit the amount to a small handful of nuts or a teaspoon of seeds

Eat more root vegetables less of those grown above ground

Eat smaller portions more often say 4-6 times a day rather than larger meals say three times a day

Avoid caffeinated drinks and beverages

Avoid oily and fatty foods

Avoid milk chocolate opt for dark

Avoid chewing gum

Avoid large salads

Drink plenty of water

Eat porridge and avoid muesli and granola

Take half an Imodium twice a day rather than one 20-30 minutes before each meal

Try Imodium Melts (apparently they’re better than the tablets

Basically everything you ever knew about eating healthily stop and rethink your diet. I was shocked but when they explained about the damage to the bowel it kind of made sense. Obviously it’s been Christmas so I haven’t really started yet but 2nd January I’ll start. Admittedly I do a fair bit of what they advised anyway but I will try the rest. It’s got to be worth a try

Hi. Glad that you found this diet. All this is right. I have been following it for a while. I would like to add that I check the fiber content of everything I eat. Nothing over 1.5 gr of fiber per 100 gr portions. I am feeling much better on the low residue diet. No more diarrhoea. Good luck.

That information is very useful and I do currently follow most of it but always felt guilty about a less “ healthy”diet. My weakness is Diet Pepsi but strangely enough seems to settle my tum! I have found the melts much better since liquid discontinued but I buy Super drug own brand as cheaper. Good luck and keep us posted !

Useful advice! I suffered after eating peanuts and marzipan at Christmas. Took 4 loperamide and 2 dioralyte to settle things down!

Fizzy drinks are too acidic for my bladder comfort.

I have never tried Imodium melts - may be a way forward.

Happy New Year to all

Jude!

I don't eat any fibre. It's much better for me and my quality of life. If I ate white bread I'd be bunged up for a week. I do not eat and fruit or veg. I eat a high fat diet and eat/drink when I'm hungry. I'm monitored by an excellent dietician and I take nutrients of the things I need and cannot absorb. I basically eat small amounts of calorie dense foods. My blood fats are more stable and lower then they've ever been. I mention this as people often ask. I eat very little sugar (dark chocolate) and no carbs generally. I had a slither of Xmas cake with cheese (cake was as big as my index finger) and it took me 3-4 days to sort myself out. It's just not worth it.

The diet they suggest is fine but I'd be wary eating often if you have diabetes or blood sugar problems. They often suggest the 'white diet' I was put on this and my hba1c went up to 45. Now it's a steady 36-37. I don't need my feet falling off on top of everything else.

I hope the changes in eating habits are working, briarsw. I did a FODMAP diet a few years ago it definitely helped me identify foods that triggered very loose bowels. Anything that helps us and increases the confidence to get out and about is good. Best of luck 👍
