Did they check your thyroid levels? I also lost a lot of weight. It turns out I have hypothyroidism. Normally I should gain weight, but after several months of having no appetite and not eating I lost weight. I was unsteady and I was falling. I started eating more protein. I am better now. I live in France where food is supposed to be very good, but they use too much butter, cream and fiber, which gives me diarrhoea. So I cook everything from scratch. I’m going to get an echocardiogram on my neck and blood work to recheck my thyroid. Regarding the PRD, I have an appointment with a proctologist in a couple of days. I will post about the results. Good luck.
I often feel a bit hungry and am usually satisfied after eating a small to moderate amount but then it won't be long before I'm feeling peckish again. I don't eat a lot in one sitting because it makes feel tired and a bit 'off'.
I have wondered if my radiotherapy treatment has impaired the ability of my gut to absorb nutrients. After 2.5 years of oral medication (Alendronic acid) for osteoporosis it seems my bone density hasn't increased as expected; I'm wondering if that's an indication that my gut isn't absorbing well.
I'm borderline underweight despite a healthy diet mostly home cooked. I get fairly regular episodes of constipation/diarrhoea despite a balanced diet and keeping well hydrated plus regular exercise.
Blood tests show my thyroid is borderline hypo, no signs of diabetes, high cholesterol.
Maybe it's nutrient deficiency that's somehow triggering persistent thoughts about food? Your body's way of telling you something.
Got me wondering if I should start taking nutritional drinks, like the ones I was prescribed when I lost weight during my radiotherapy treatment. They're a convenient way of increasing nutrient intake and fairly platable imo.
I tested B12 deficient shortly after completion of my cancer treatment in 2017 and was prescribed with B12 injections. Maybe it's time for a recheck?
I get Zolendronic (sp?) acid infusions....the med is called Reclast. I get one infusion a year. After 3 years, my osteoporosis has been reclassified as osteopenia. So I guess my bone density has improved but it took a while.
May I ask if you had Alendronic acid (oral) prior to the Zolendronic acid? If so did it help your bone density at all.
I've been on AA for 3 years but my DEXA scan indicates no significant change to my bone density. I've recently been offered ZA but I'm not keen on injections.
I'm wondering if my radiotherapy associated gut issues mean the AA is just passing through me and not getting to where it needs to go.
