Dear All,
As an Englishman I SHOULD know, my own language..... but is the word 'Zebra' pronounced 'ZEE/BRA' or 'ZED/BRA'- or doesn't it matter?
I know that, there are 'variations', in the Language- amongst the 'English Speaking World' sometimes even different Spelling/Pronunciation(s). Take 'Potato', for example- I pronounce this 'Pot/Ay/Toe', the Americans 'Pot/Art/Toe' the same for Tomato. British cars have Bonnets & Boots....American cars have Hoods & Trunks. We have 'Murder, Manslaughter and Self Defence' the Americans have 'Murder, in the First, Second and Third Degree'. We have a vegetable, we call, an Aubergine - the Americans call this an 'Egg Plant'. More minor Differences include... In my Language we have a LadyBIRD, the Americans LadyBUG... both are the 'charming' little beetle, with the coloured wing cases. (we English put a 'U' in Colour & Flavour, and Pronounce it accordingly.....Col-ore and Flav-ore.)
I didn't mean, to get, into such a Discussion here.... sorry. Can anyone answer my original enquiry please? Many Thanks
AndrewT
