Waiting for Sarilumab to kick in as have had numerous changes of medication in past 2 years. Hb remains low and I permanently exhausted
Referal to a haematologist has been suggested by my practice nurse but no one else seems to take it seriously as ferritin is fine so they won't give me Iron and I'm left feeling like rubbish. Pain is also a factor as struggling to control that. Just increased Morphine but don't want to he stuck on that permanently. Was thinking re accupuncture . Has anyone tried it. Thanks for listening. Hi I'm sorry your feeling so poarly If it were me I would try acupuncture if you can afford it as them kinds of treatment are usually expensive, I know myself by sometimes tapping accidently on a point on my body it effects another so I feel also it would work as it is a known practice hope something works for you my pain is different from yours but I try and distract my mind from it xx
I would look into it the best you can before doing it and reaserach xx
Hi Kate, Acupuncture can be really successful as a treatment for pain. I haven't had it myself but one of my previous GP practices had an association with a practitioner and did refer some patients for treatment with good results. I'd say it might well be worth a try so long as it's affordable for you, or you can obtain it via the NHS (sometimes possible), and so long as you don't expect too much from it (though you may find it really is of help). Best wishes.
First I have lots of medical conditions and I also take morphine. Oramorph Oral Solution is what I take. With oral morphine you can use a syringe or 5mm spoon and has an advantage tablets do not have. You can dose according to pain, or to find the optimum dose.
2.5 ml for example = 5mg of mg and 5ml of = 10mg. You can take less or more within the instructions on the label.
I also take iron, not sure why that is not prescribed, unless your FBC results mean you don't need iron.
Also and this is important - You are not likely to get addicted to morphine IF you are taking it for PAIN and not to induce a high.
So it depends why you have been given morphine - and the dose you have increased to. Important again, being you don't want to get "stuck" on morphine and you are taking it for 'pain' only, you are unlikely to become addicted in the sense you could never get of the stuff.
Also I take Paracetamol with morphine, that is no different than the combination opioid tablets Codeine + Paracetamol for example. No more that 8 tablets spaced in 24 hours and that could help keep morphine as low b of possible, talk this over with your doctor, it helps me .
Kath: Re: "accupuncture" - Just my opinion but if your pain is severe enough to require morphine, I can't see "accupuncture" being able to do the same job of relieving severe pain.
Good luck with "Sarilumab" - hope this kicks in soon, In the meantime don't be suffering pain. With morphine the golden rule is, take the lowest possible dose to obtain pain relief.
To conclude - If you are worried about not having iron tablets. See your GP - You can need iron even f blood say otherwise. happened to my sister in law.
I BTW take morphine for OA and degeneration - I see you are taking it for RA, first time I have come across that combination.
Sorry for long post, but I try and be accurate as I am not a doctor and can only go from my experience. Best of luck and whatever you find helps,, keep yourself pain free.
