I went out yesterday which is in itself a rare event.

My daughter who is a couture milliner was making a cathedral veil for a client, these are the very long veils in 2 layers so called as they are usually popular in formal weddings with long aisles.. (such as a cathedral)

I helped finalise the design and align symmetrical applications of hand-made lace to the edges The wedding is soon and i had no idea how difficult they are to make. Even the stand you work from was about 7 feet high.

The tiara is also hand made and so intricate with antique beading.Ileft my daughter with hours of tiny stitches and loops to apply and felt very proud, plus I had learnt a lot.

That was a fantastic opportunity Sops and how wonderful that your daughter does such intricate and detailed millinery.

She is very artistic and has won several awards, unfortunately, with the present position, she has hardly any clients , so is using her time to diversify and study.

That veil is for an overseas wedding. Cannot wait to see the photos, it was absolutely beautiful.

How fascinating! You are fortunate to have such a talented daughter who is willing to put in the time to hand make things. It's almost a forgotten art! Have you ever gone on You Tube and look at videos by PriorAttire? They are very interesting. She is a former stage costumer who makes historically accurate clothes mostly by hand. She also has videos teaching people how to stitch by hand. You would find them entertaining.

Thank you so much, I will look and also send this to Lucy my daughter.

She is very much a collector of vintage and theatrical, and in the last year of her degree presented her-finals work in a show of circus through style and motion through the ages.

Glad you enjoyed learning about the veil, it is for an overseas wedding so cannot wait to see the photos,

I will when the bride sends some in if I am allowed. My daughters website is lucy bowler couture milliner, i think you can see some of her hats on there, she also has a bog, but I am not very technical, sorry. The studio is called the Heavenly HatShop.

It was lovely,( although I actually visited to see her new puppy) !her studio is fascinating with vintage wedding paraphernalia, hats in the making and a huge cupboard that her designer friend customised for her, known as the curios den, I fell in love with an antique brooch shaped like a bee, maybe I might get it Christmas???.

Thank you, she has over the years built a beautiful studio, shop, and teaching area opposite her home so she has cats, dogs and music to keep her inspired and creative, just no clients as no weddings, the one i mentioned is taking place in another country.

You must be so very proud.

What is that English saying saying about the apple never falls far from the tree?

How wonderful that the intricate stitches she has put into the wedding veil will be seen and admired by many.

Maybe her work will become a family heirloom for that bride.
