vulnerable adults question

As we are all moving out of lock down and going back to work etc. I wanted people's opinions on whether I should be going into shops. I haven't been into a shop except once since March 17th. My internet shopping is red hot. However I really miss going to the shops. As any one been into shops etc as a vulnerable person.

I still on furlough as my agency isn't looking to get any work in nurseries. In September I will be back to working in schools. Really looking forward to that.

I have blood cancer and have had to shop throughout as I didn't get my shielding letter until a few weeks ago...that's another story. I'm on my own and as I have multiple allergies it would be nigh on impossible for anyone else to pick safe things and the risk of cross contamination is huge. I have worn gloves and mask throughout and shop in the next village mostly where fewer people go. Just before closing is a good time as the shop is normally empty. This also applies to the supermarket in the nearby town. When infection rates were higher I stripped and showered on returning, washing all clothing and hair. All items quarantined. Hope this helps. I do feel more vulnerable now people are mixing freely again.

I agree go to the local farm shop, or to a village shop if necessary. I haven't been in a supermarket for months. Always wear mask and gloves, only problem is when I come back into town very few people masked. If only the government would say everyone must be masked when they go out

I understand that you feel vulnerable and I appalled your routine of keeping yourself safe.

I have my husband doing the shopping but I just want to shop too. It was my job but now he's for now.

Tomorrow I am going for an eye test in my local shopping mall.

It will be a mask and hand gel.

Hi elanaoali, I think I'd think twice and maybe even three times before deciding to go shopping. It's now relatively safe for fitter people, due to the safety measures put in place, but you are extra vulnerable, and shopping's not quite the pleasurable thing it was pre-covid19. There's queueing and dodging the people who won't socially distance, to factor in.

We don't know what spikes or waves may come, as yet, so I think I'd be letting the fitter people go out and test the waters for a while and stay safe with my internet shopping for a little longer.

Just take it easy for now and go to one shop at first. Pick your time carefully the beginning of the week tends to be the quietest rather than the weekend ( Thursday to Sunday), also the last Thursday to Sunday at the end of the month is even busier with shoppers who are paid monthly.

Keep your distance from others around you and use any hand sanitizer the shop has.

It's up to you if you want to wear a mask but I can't as I have severe respiratory problems so for me it's a godsend that others do as it stops them from spreading virus that can be detrimental to those of us who have severe respiratory problems or who are immune compromised due to Autoimmune Diseases or the drugs we have to take.

Yes it's very scary at first especially as we've been shielding for so long, I think I had a bit of a panic but managed to keep it under control and felt so glad I did it.

Just take your time and pick your moments and don't be tempted to go from shop to shop on the first shopping trip.

Oh I almost forgot to mention that a lot has changed during our time in, card payment only and there are screens at the checkouts between you and the cashier's and between the customers going through the supermarket checkout at the till next to you.

Enjoy your trip to the shop.

X

I am also shielding, and it is a worry to go out in that big world again. I miss doing my shopping in the store and have to rely on the pickers & packers at the supermarkets, they don't always pick the best. I will be taking it in baby steps when I start to go out, but it won't be in supermarkets, it will be the local shops at first, ie corner shop. I have COPD and Asthma plus other serious conditions and medication that affects my Immune system I have trouble wearing masks, but will wear one in the shop. I have also got gloves, as I use these to wipe down all food stuff that can be wiped with antibac wipes.

`I been to the optican and that was fine. I have to go back to collect new glasses on saturday. I been to a small supermarket and tomorrow I go to do the family shop. My local high street certainly has changed.

I also done some supply work in a nursery. Getting back into the swing of things.

Looking forward to our family camping holiday in august. God bless.
