Today there's a vigil of sorts in our very small town, which will be briefly attended by a couple dozen people over 65. Unfortunately, men with big guns show up to similar events in the small towns as a "counter protest". Can't say it isn't intimidating. In two of the other small towns this has happened, and in one, a friend told me the gun bearers were not even from the town.
I asked an 84 y/o and 73 y/o if they want me to walk them to the event. Scared out of my wits, and that's WITH a positive response from our new Sheriff (he's going to show up at the invitation of the "geezers" for the vigil).

I think any situation where there are gatherings of any sort and for what ever reason the most important thing is to be aware of your surroundings. Know who is next to you. Have a plan in mind if things don't run to plan and be sure to maintain your safety. Be observant and be prepared to make a quick exit if necessary. Other than this, I hope it all goes well. xx
What is it your protesting about? Is it the recent killing by a policeman in America?
I can understand you are fearful. It is always difficult in circumstances like this to show your abhorrence to something so horrible!. I don't envy you at all. However, we have to stand up for what is right and hope that something good will come from your brave actions. Please take care.
Good luck and please let us know how the protest ends.
thanks for both responses. not everyone will agree with me, but I'm finding it scary, and we are "relatively" safe here.
I do hope it all passes off peacefully Wallowa, but I fully understand your concerns and urge you to be very watchful and careful. Stay safe on all counts!🙏
