I am 71 - and I was disabled for five years - so I do appreciate being able to walk.
I can see this hill from my house - and I always wanted to walk to the top from my house.
There is an annual charity walk to the top (cancelled this year) - but the walk goes over private land - so you cannot walk to the top at any other time... but you can walk around it, as I did today.
14km, 8.6 miles, 225 metres height gain in four hours moving, five hours elapsed. 1,155 "active" calories burnt! A few days ago I took a bus to the halfway point and walked back.

That’s great 😁 why don’t you do again sometime soon? So important to make these small safe steps! I’ve lost my confidence, (I’m not shielding but I’m being very careful as I have asthma and am 55. )
But been to walk the dog very cautiously in my local park and by accident meet my Zumba mate Tony. We had a safe, brief chat and then walked up and around town. Beautiful morning and vv quiet 8.30 am Sunday.
My achievement today is a 5 miles run on my treadmill. Took me an hour so not massively fast 😂.
Hopefully over time we will push the boundaries when safe to do so. Wishing you all the best 😊!
Sounds like a plan! 🥂 for a future pub stop ! I think a pub lunch 🥗 is what’s needed to motivate me! Hope you get to have your wonderful walks and pub lunch very soon! The scenic routes are the best. You’re very lucky to be able to walk in such beautiful countryside with wonderful weather. You will be fighting fit at the end of all this !
Well done. Have you thought of trying to build up a portfolio of half a dozen circular walks, say 5- 6 miles long(then you can have Sunday off) , Along river banks. old railway lines, community paths, footpaths, bridle ways. Have a dig around, you might find some local walking groups you can join in with, or the ramblers and such. You have to pay after a few walks but you will have company and be insured.
If you can get out two or three times a week you might be able to work out suitable stopping points about half way round to have a coffee and a pee, e.g. a café, a garden centre
a costas coffee shop, a small shop , a hotel etc.
Ah ,yes. the local pubs If you are half way round temptation beckons. Pints of beer to lure you in. Of course you can resist temptation to have another all is well, but If you start to pick up companions as your walks get known about it can get a bit dire..
I used to cycle 15,000 miles a year - and I had a lot of regular rides to cafes (mostly between Birmingham, Hereford, Cirencester and Oxford) and I have been thinking I might cycle again. The longest trip I did (with the Cycle Touring Club) was 2,500 miles to Tromsø. In 1995 I cycled 760 miles Paris-Brest-Paris in 87 hours.
Before lockdown, I used to walk to lunch to a pub, cafe or OAP lunch club.
Most of the walks I do are in the country (including a walk along the river) - but a circuit of the town is about 5km - and it is ideal when the fields are muddy.
About twenty years ago I walked with the ramblers (with a girlfriend, when I was between wives) - and I have been thinking I might soon be fit enough to walk with them again.
I have always been a tea-totaller - so beer does not tempt me.
