Hi everyone, just like to point out on other benefits you could be entitled to and it's worth the hassle . No1 water rates I payed a lot where I live so I looked into a water meter as I didn't think I should pay for what I don't use . They came to fit one inside but because of pipe work couldn't fit it so tried outside again they couldn't as utility pipe in way so the contractor said if you sign to say that we couldn't fit one you might get something knocked off your yearly bill and I did 100 pounds. No2 who ever you have your energy with check to see if you are entitled to a one of payment of 140 pounds a year warm discount for people under pension age on certain benefits . Remember they won't tell you it's you have to tell them .

Living in a council house, we had to have a water metre fitted, fearful that our water bill would go up, but it went down...... we applied for the annual Warm Home payment again, and this time they checked our eligibilty, and said we have a couple of pounds to much, so have never been entitled to it for the past three years..... but they wouldn’t be asking for a refund.... PHEW!!!
Useful reminder Longsider. There will be many people out there who need a little help at the moment.
Great idea , every penny counts.
If you do have a water meter and you have certain qualifying medical conditions, are on certain benefits or have an unusually large family you can apply for the Watersure scheme which guarantees your bill won't exceed a fixed amount no matter how much water you use.
I'm in sheltered housing and our water is done through the local council/housing agency. We pay for gas and electricity individually, and luckily get the winter fuel payment due to my husband's small pension.
