Well my Son has been told car factory work will start again on 18th of May.

Will be most likely staggered shifts, part time etc.... I pray and hope they have put good instructions down for workers.

People should have been tested, tested, tested.. .... in Germany 3 meat factories were closed again as 1 person had tested positive for COVID-19. My sister told me yesterday!

Why aren't these people tested before commencing work! SERIOUSLY!!!😷🙄🤒🥵

No change for those of us shielding. For the rest a gradual return to work where that can be done safely and where you can't work from home. And they will be allowed to exercise more and even sunbathe so parks etc are going to become even more packed and so less safe for those of us who have made the personal decision to go out despite the "dont leave your house at all" advice to extremely vulnerable.

May38 profile image
May38 in reply to AdrianUK

I agree with you I go for a walk now because could not stay in 24 hours every day I am very careful by going a certain times a in big space and not touching anything hopefully I can still do that

Davegt profile image
Davegt in reply to AdrianUK

For those shielding because they are high risk I would not be surprised if the guidance is to stay indoors for at least 12 months. I say that NOT as a pessimist but a realist. It would be unfair to expect everyone who has resumed work not to go to parks in their recreation time but still adopting the 2 metre rule. To stay in for 24 hours 7days a week is hard. I am in that group. As yet I haven't been out but think I may go for short walks at quiet times to overcome depression and stress. Overall I don't think life will ever be quite the same again. How long before this virus returns in a modified form i.e. a mutation that could be more or less virulent with a higher or lower R number. How long before another virus develops probably crossing from animal to human. It could be one year 10 years or 50 years. We do not know when or if.

I cannot understand why we are not doing this in the same way, as in Scotland Wales and Ireland. Where is the United in UK.

I think people will interpret this the way that best suits them. The strength was in the simple STAY HOME.

I totally agree with you why are we different does not make sense and people will pick the best bits which is not going to be good at all

Davegt profile image
Davegt in reply to ellj

But the message now is get back to work but be alert. That means observe the 2 metre social distancing rule and continue to wash hands regularly and do NOT touch your face. STAY HOME gives out the wrong signal for encouragement to return to work. Obviously that message does not apply to the 1 million or so who are high risk. As far as I know STAY HOME will still apply to us for some considerable time.

Yes Mr drakeford the first minister explained to us about how no Welsh schools won't be opening on June 1st and also you can go out twice daily for exercise if you want.

Good as my daughter is not sending her 9 year old to school either. She's also a College teacher and College finishes end of May. Before lockdown children went to her childminder but that would be impossible now as social distancing can't be implemented. So many people are affected by this.

Sorry to say but Government has been asleep and was warned in 2016 to prepare for a Pandemic like this. Don't get me started.... Some Prime Ministers in the Tory and Labour Government have a lot to answer to..... there are some dark secrets swept under the carpet.

Can we really trust Government now. I do have my doubts!

If my children and grandchildren weren't living here in England I would consider moving back home!!!!

Covid-19 and the slowness of China to report what was happening are to blame.

Hello Gran Turismo...as in GT!

How was today? Not too bad I hope..

We had a bit of high drama!

Our neighbours recently took down their garden shed...at the top... We are three little Victorian terraced houses.... They must have had a nest of rats beneath it... Hhmmm you guessed it. The family of rodents have now moved in 'chez nous' under our garden shed! My partner made the unfortunate discovery last week... By finding a huge pile of earth dug up in the centre of our shed my partner proceeded to shovel a great deal of it out as you can expect... Hmmm this must have provoked them still further poor things... And to my partner's utter, total shock, our very proactive, confident and muscular domestic pint sized panther, Modomme Feline, called Misha by name, staggered in with a bit of a swagger through the door and layed a partially stunned, luxurious looking 30 cm rat at his feet!!!!!!

He was so stunned he was just rooted to the ground and could only repeat the single command No, No, No, No in a mesmeric trance, in a vaIn attempt to get Misha to reverse!!! Clearly this captured prey was being laid at his ungrateful feet in homage, expecting no doubt supper to be 'un ragoût' ....quite literally!!! All this took place whilst I was thankfully in the shower... So I was spared witnessing the event as it unfolded!

Well, that was our exciting brush with the bowels of the shed's secret inhabitants!!

Prepping supper now... And it's not ragoût!!! I promise.

Stay well

Poppy the 'pretend' 🐈!!!

Oh dear. I don't know about the bowels of the earth but that might have caused me a real bowel evacuation.

Sorry you are cooking a meal. I have had an ordinary day. I ordered my little dog's regular medication to prevent worms and fleas and it was delivered as I am shielding. I cooked myself a meal and fed the little man.

Apart from that browsing the internet and the hours fly by.

Keep safe.

Poppy_the_cat in reply to Davegt

I know exactly what you mean!!

Thank goodness I wasn't there when it happened!!

We are also going to have to drop off our wee kitten to the vets, leaving her in the entrance corridor for them to give her in, to give her her immunisations.

Well, supper was delicious! New Charlotte potatoes dressed in olive oil and organic balsamic vinegar and finely chopped little green onions... A cherry tomato, finely chopped shallot and avocado salad, again dressed in olive oil and balsamic, with some lovely slow roasted gammon with marmelade smeared on it to caramelise the crackling while it cooked!

Watching Who wants to be a Millionaire now... apparently the disabled Dr get yo the million £££ question! Good luck to him!!

HI SNOWDROP,

WE CAN BLAME POLITICIANS AND YES, THEY WERE WARNED 5 YEARS AGO. BUT THEY ONLY KNEW A PANDEMIC WAS COMING. NO ONE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WOULD BE. WE ARE ALL QUICK TO BLAME OUR GOVERNMENTS BUT NO ONE EVER MENTIONS WHO IS REALLY AT FAULT HERE, CHINA. WHILE THEY HAD THEIR COUNTRY IN LOCKDOWN THEY WERE STILL ALLOWING THEIR PEOPLE TO FLY INTERNATIONALLY. THEY STILL WON'T SHARE INFO WITH US.

GLAD YOU CAN GET OUT MORE IN UK. THIS THING HAS TO GO AWAY...PLEASE VERY SOON. WE ALL HAVE TO JUST "HANG IN THERE" AND IT'S NOT EASY.

We have not been alerted early enough when Pandemic was going crazy in China.

Stocks for special PPE PROTECTION WAS LOW!!!!

WE HAD SWINES FLU, EBOLA, NOW A COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

POLITICIAN WHO ARE IN GOVERNMENT SHOULD TAKE APPROPRIATE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIONS.

ITS AFFECTING TOO MANY LIVES, KILLED PEOPLE, AND THE END IS NOT IN SIGHT.

SORRY CAN'T DO WITH

"NOT GETTING TO THE POINT"!

of cause I am very glad Boris, fiancee have recovered and their baby is safe.....

But also I want him to take actions to get Britain back on its feet and push for meds helping COVID-19 patients to recover, which are being partly administered, push for testing for all of us, get this tracking app moving and the vaccine to be developed !!

Sorry wanna see actions not just talks and empty promises.

My dad is 88 years old lives in Germany, my sister is paralyzed and I have 2 other brothers. Can't visit again, couldn't last year because of my heart attack February....

Yes I am not happy with people coming out with ha well.... bla bla .

Even if you can't see my point, an outsider looks at things differently.

Even Germany has made mistakes....in curbing Pandemic quickly.....

But let's face it NHS WAS VERY ILL PREPARED WITH LACK OF STOCK!

HI-

I STILL DON'T KNOW HOW YOU PREPARE FOR SOMETHING THAT IS UNKNOWN?? LOCAL GOVERNMENTS HERE IN U.S. WERE ALSO WARNED.

NYC WAS WARNED FIVE YEARS AGO THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH VENTILATORS AND THE FEDS OFFERED THEM THOUSANDS MORE. THEY REFUSED, CUOMO REFUSED AND THEN BLAMED EVERYONE ELSE BECAUSE NYC NEEDED MORE RESPIRATORS. YES, THE BLAME FOR THIS IS ON CHINA'S GOVERNMENT BECAUSE THEY KNOW WHAT THIS WAS AND HID IT WHILE THEY ALLOWED THEIR PEOPLE OUT TO OTHER COUNTRIES TO SPREAD IT.

HOW NICE OF THEM TO SHARE.

WHILE WE COMPLAIN, AND WE ALL DO, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE ANSWER IS, DO YOU? OVER A HUNDRED LABS ARE WORKING ON A VACCINE. MANY TRIALS ARE GOING ON TO TRY AND FIND TREATMENT.

LET'S HOPE AND PRAY SOMEONE FINDS A GOOD TREATMENT AND VACCINE

FOR THIS VERY SOON.

How do you prepare for a 100 foot high tsunami? Perhaps a 150 foot wall around the coastline! How do you prepare for a nuclear attack. In such a small country a few nuclear weapons would be the end of UK. If you lived in a bunker you couldn't come out for years because of the half life of radioactive materials. There would not be enough food and water to survive. You can't stop an earthquake happening. All you can do is make buildings that MAY withstand the violent shaking. Disruption to electricity gas and water supplies cannot be avoided. We don't have tornados in UK. We can't stop hurricanes. They will become more frequent and violent with climate change. Sadly governments do not have magic wands to make these things go away. Ordering tons of PPE equipment in case of a possible pandemic is fine. However it has to be stored and how long does it last before it begins to deteriorate.

I think unfortunately that you will have to postpone your plans to move house for a while longer yet however its not too early to start sorting through things of what you want and what you don't want!

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply to

Hi there , moving house is a bit difficult but everything can be done to a certain point. Veiwings are being done by virtual online with many properties. I was advised to wait till the 12 weeks has passed but you can still show an interest in a property. The 12 week curfew ends early June which is only a few weeks down the line. Of course it depends on how eager your purchaser is willing to wait, mine has been waiting since November last year. I have been living out of boxes since last April as this is my third purchaser. As someone said there could be a rise in properties available in the circumstances if we are patient.

Yes big problem that..... if my daughter couldn't stay at home, nor her partner, who is self employed, that would create a massive problem for her. I would have volunteered to stay for 5 days in her house as a key worker, as no way you can send kids to school, creche or child minder. Her youngest is 4 and a half.

And her partner works in the Construction industry. He said social distancing is impossible there!!!!

I live in CA. First Governor and CDC say it's mandatory to wear a mask. Now in several counties it's not mandatory. Then beaches open in certain areas. Then because people don't adhere to social distancing, closed again. They allow some non-essential businesses to open. That I definitely think ARE non-essential. Sheriff says no gun sales. Changes his mind twice. Now they are saying that more businesses can open they say were non-essential based on data tracing. One is pet groomers. That's great. My dog needs groomed. I'm wearing a mask anyways. B4 they were mandatory, a jerk in line ahead of me in grocery store was coughing all over. I became ill with all but one symptom. Now CDC has added more symptoms. I'm having all doctor's appointments by phone. I have several major high risk medical conditions that put me at risk. I have complied with "Stay at Home" order. And will until all this conflicting information is clarified.

Klove22 profile image

Hoarding has left grocery store shelves empty. I've become inventive just for paper towels. Go to AutoZone. Buy blue shop rags. Same material. Bought Hibiclens soap online. They were out of stock in all drug store's. Cousin used 2b a nurse. Same soap a surgeon uses to scrub up b4 surgery. Expensive. But in my opinion, worth it. Then today I read COVID-19 can survive on bottom of shoes. So I have been disinfecting shoes b4 coming in home. I've suspected that would b the case and had been doing it anyways. No disinfectant cleaner? Go to Home Depot and buy Zep antibacterial disinfectant (1 gallon). Put in spray bottle to clean anything. Hope that helps.

Vast swathes of people are still contracting this killer disease daily, track and trace is not up and running, there's no sign of a reliable antibody/immunity test and a vaccine is 12-18 months away.

Hotbeds of infection are still our neglected care homes which account for further deaths daily and precious care workers continue to be asked to put their lives on the line, still without the universal availability of adequate PPE. Data gathering and testing is still woefully inadequate, with recent fudged testing figures confirming the immorality of our reckless government.

The 1.8 million shielded will have to come out eventually, running the gauntlet of potential infection and a high probability of death.

Cynically, the NHS has been proved able to establish available ITU beds in numbers, so is this just phase 2 of of the denied herd immunity strategy?

I cannot see the logic of allowing increased social contact as a way of decreasing infection rates and world beating mortality.

What can you do with the new rules? Well brutally, increase your chances of being part of the daily infection or death toll. Ongoing isolation looks attractive in comparison.

Have I missed something?

Poppy_the_cat profile image
Poppy_the_cat in reply to IanGordon

I fear that due to this totally mishandled situation, which you so clearly and succinctly describe above & with total economic collapse looming we may well all eventually get a pat on the back and be told to 'take our chances!' My son is currently trying to get to work . Trains crowded and infrequent .Texts from those who have arrived say there is 1 block of toilets open on ground floor - he is on the 8th plus kitchen is locked . 2 managers instead of 7 are there and they have said that all may have to go home at lunchtime . I may end up driving to pick him up - luckily he lives with us but by then ..if he gets to work he will have mixed with loads - sadly I can't take his stranded workmates home either . ...this is a mess .

Just seen news footage of spine roads around London where people are driving into work by car and queues forming .If any of those cars broke down and worst till a crash ...this hasn't been thought out and thus panic .

The Guardian online has detailed the information and new rules which come into play as from Wednesday, so you can see them there. They cannot make any changes before Wednesday as it has to be passed through Parliament. So nothing has changed until Wednesday. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are different because their ministers control the health rules not Westminster. And the rules are different because they are making these decisions based on the "r" rate (the reproduction rate of the virus, or the infection rate) Boris Johnson is ignoring the rate in care homes which is high and going by the rest of England. By ignoring care homes the "r" rate in England is below 1 which is what he needs to be able to release measures on lockdown. For the rest of the UK the "r" rate is still above 1, so they are keeping the people safe rather than concentrating on the economy. For those who were declared needing to shield nothing changes anywhere. The 12 weeks is up on June 15th so everything is still the same. For moving... The Guardian says "essential moves can take place i.e if your life is in danger you can move. For confirmation or clarity please see the Guardian online.

Most of the speech was something about how we've been wonderful little soldiers, sacrificing our freedom (which I would have thought was incorrect as we are not losing freedom, we are protecting our future) and we must use common sense.

Also, the government has shown the above does not apply to them, anyone who can't work from home has been told to head back to work from today and they are releasing a 50 page document telling people how to do that safely. Not entirely certain who decided to do it in that particular order, but it's clear they are an idiot.

herdysheep profile image

the police here have already had issues over the weekend from people from Essex and London driving 300 miles to walk the fells, buy a puppy etc. Now all the idiots will be driving to tourist spots for 'exercise' after 3 hr journeys to areas that can not support them, to say nothing of no public loos. More infection for areas less able to deal with it. Great. Thank you Boris.

I would totally ignore anything that is not positive which the speech was. It seems that lady who does not like the english much has more kokum. If any person comes into close contact with others a mask I would have thought is still an essential because if it is a P3

designated mask it will protect the wearer up to 97%........OK any mask in not 100% protective unless it has it's own air supply but as I said from day one any mask is better than none.....

Any mask must fit air tight to the skin around the airways if it is to deliver the designated % of protection.

Desperate families, desperate businesses, desperate times.

If you're broke, hungry and scared, you don't have choices and the total inadequacy of government support and broken promises continues to compound the suffering for many members of society.

Yes, there are examples of compassion in communities, which is well publicised by the predominantly pro government media, but the bad news is invariably buried.

The report also says no specific advice at all yet for those in vulnerable group - e.g. over 70s. Same edition has report - there are increasingly more of these types of report - pointing out that the policy is in large part based on statistics yet these are vastly inaccurate due to inadequate and speedy testing.

The details start being published today. Yesterday was just an outline of the 5 stages and a very rough idea. That was done because there was a lot of moaning about what is happening. The detail will be fleshed out from today.

Many people would like to say he can stick them where the sun don't shine. Perhaps it's on you tube

We are in this together but we are all different. Some should now be returning to work and be alert to maintaining social distancing. Those who are high risk MUST remain indoors FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY. If going outside then keep well away from others. High risk people who catch this virus could well lose their lives. We need workers to get the economy moving. Those of us who are unfortunate enough to be high risk must accept that although we are in this together we must look after ourselves. Remember there have been many volunteers distributing care packages to high risk people. They are helping less fortunate high risk people. That does suggest to me that we are in this together. I am so grateful for the help I have received. I appreciate some may have been missed but it has been a mammoth exercise.
