Ask Google I'm sure it will tell you something, or is there a phone number on it you can check.

I got a food parcel. In it was a note from my local authority to tell me I had got it because I had registered on the gov website and what to do if I no longer needed it.

If you are worried about it being infected, just leave it untouched for a couple of days as a precaution. Wash any perishables in soapy water.

As far as I know the virus can live for up to 12 hrs on soft surfaces and 72 hrs on hard surfaces.

Hi Legley

We got our emergency food package this morning it had a letter in the box from H M Government . It also tells you what to do if you no longer require it if you have ways of getting your weekly shopping to your home it tells you to register your details and click on Yes stating that you have ways of getting your shopping delivered. The trouble with some people is that there so caught up in doubting everything and when someone or a department does a good deed for someone they question it. I don't understand why some people are washing their food in soapy water don't you know that can cause stomach problems and disorders. You of course can put them under the cold tap water but for heavens sake dont wash meat or chickens especially because it can cause e.coli and that is dangerous if it's not treated. Let's be sensible about this and not go over the top. Take care and stay safe always Peter

I thought there was very clear advice NOT to wash chicken - more likely to increase contamination etc

Hi Herdysheep

Your right there is clear Advice on not to wash chickens but with the coronavisus around people might wash them. In fact I wouldn't wash any sort of Meat as the Oven will kill.off any bacteria in the meat anyway. Because of the high temperatures in ovens.

Apologies, Peter. Had read original post as advising to was h meat and chicken. Can see now I had misread it.

Thank you Peter

Called company delivering and cancelled future deliveries. Im still shielding but hubby is able to do shopping for us being careful and super clean when he comes home. I feel that there are more deserving people than ourselves who are in need of these packages. X

Well posted Peter, my thoughts too!

You can donate things you don't use to the local foodbank as they will be delighted to receive donations!

Hi Legley,

Lots of people are now receiving these parcels and there are even people demonstrating on YouTube what their contents were. So yours should be relatively safe to touch. Just wash your hands thoroughly after you have emptied it and disposed of the packaging. If you are sanitising your shopping generally, then just use whatever method you normally do to be sure the contents are safe. Hope that helps. Best wishes and I hope you have a pleasant day.

Thank you Callendersgal

Contents of box was very good there was no note or number who to call after some detective work found out it was brakes company distribution centre so called them and said thank you. Ive cancelled future boxes as there are more needy than myself who could do with boxes .

Hi,

One arrived about an hour ago! I have just logged on to gov.uk/coronavirus-extremel... to ensure that we are not sent more.

My OH was not suspicious No not more food! were his words.

There are folk who really need them and we have been fine using our Sainsbury/Tesco slots.

We are also very fortunate in having a wonderful local chocolatier who has been delivering bread and milk as needed and has now filled his shelves with other items that people are struggling to get hold of.

I hope you are managing to get everything you need. Take Care.

My friends who got the 12 week stay home letter have had food boxes off the government who have cancer.

I had told one of them to ask the local shops if they deliver as if you don't ask you don't get!
