Reading in the sunshine!

If I'm honest I thought I'd get more reading done in this lockdown than I actually have! But this sunshine has helped me get outside on my little balcony and start reading again.

I've just started 'Double Cross' by Ben Macintyre which is based on the true story of double agents during the Second World War. They sounded incredibly brave and we really couldn't have won the war without them. And no-one even knew they existed as MI6 only released the records a few years ago!

Anyway, has anyone else been reading anything that they wan't to share? Would be great to hear!

Hi HelenHU ,

I've been getting a lot of reading done during the lockdown, too. Right now, I've been reading: "The Outsider", by Stephen King. It started out a little slower than I had expected, but it's picking up on what's going on in the story.

It's taking time to solve a crime that was committed in Flint City. The Police Department feel (especially the Detective) that the Coach for the Little League Baseball Team is the one who has done the crime, but has a long list of witnesses to still interview and see if anyone has missed anything. I'm right now on page 81 and the book is 561 pages (page 561 is the Author's Note from Stephen King).

Ooof that sounds like quite a hefty book but perfect for these times I guess! Good commitment to keep going...I hate the idea of leaving a book unfinished just in case it does turn out to be good, but sometimes it's just not worth it to force yourself.

Thank you for saying that, HelenHU . I'm a big fan of Stephen King's writing, so I'm use to his long books. This is just the first one that is going slower than the rest. :-)

I can imagine Paul O'Grady is so funny!

I've started book group with friends as well, it's just a good excuse to get us all on the phone really but I hope it lasts after all of this :)

I do a monthly book posting for two other groups on HU and they keep everyone happy. :-) It's nice to see what others like to read about during their day. :-)

It is and quiet dry in places.

Hope your book club continues

What an excellent sounding book.

I thought I'd get loads done but I'm out exercising so much and have done so much baking over the lockdown I don't know where the time has gone.

I guess its a good thing really that time is going (relatively) quickly!

Yes it is a good thing. I'm doing something every single day.😊

I do live the sound of your book, I only like true life stories.

Ben Macintyre has written a few war related books, based on true stories. One about the SAS who were founded in the second world war, and purposefully worked behind enemy lines. All very interesting and you're right, limited technical communications made it very tricky!

The sea is my brother sounds like such a poetic title already so will look out for it :)

I have read since lockdown began head over heels by Jill mansell, the cake shop in the garden by Carole Matthews, the murder road by Stephen booth, take a chance on me by Jill mansell and this afternoon started another of her books called you and me always which is getting good so far!

I'm looking for a good read at the moment, spies, true story, sounds like my type of book. Hope you enjoy it. 😊😊

Hi HelenHU, I'm like you and surprised I haven't got more reading done. I've even resorted to an audiobook version from my county library online. I think it was CalvinHU who recommended 'A Gentleman in Moscow' by Amor Towles and I made a really good start with it, then progress stalled for several reasons but I was really enjoying it. So now I'm picking up the pace with the audiobook!

I do like the sound of 'Double Cross' and I'll put that on my list for consideration next.

Happy reading!

Hi,

I’m addicted to the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. He is my kind of guy! Elizabeth.

Another series I really love is the Dave Robichaux series by James Lee Burke. Both of the series I refer to should be read in chronological order. Elizabeth.
